A cover assembly for an electrical box, such as a fire-rated poke through, includes a frame defining an opening, the frame including a first frame location and a second frame location, the first frame location being substantially opposite the second frame location, a cover movable between a closed position over the opening and an open position away from the opening, the cover having a perimeter including a proximal end and a distal end, the proximal end being substantially opposite the distal end, and a hinge attaching the cover to the rear frame portion, the hinge having two substantially parallel pivot axes, at least one of which is movable towards and away from the other, one pivot axis located at the first frame location and the other pivot axis located at the proximal end of the cover. This construction provides a cover assembly for an electrical box that allows ready access to utility interfaces within the box, while preventing unwanted fluid and debris from damaging the junction box or utility interfaces below the cover assembly.

An apparatus and method for preventing the miswiring of a protection device. The protection device includes line terminals and load terminals. The protection device further includes a latching mechanism, adapted to move between a closed state which establishes electrical contact between said line and load terminals, and an open state which prevents electrical contact between said line and load terminals; and an initial reset prevention mechanism, adapted to prevent said latching mechanism from being set in said closed state until power is applied to said line terminals.

An apparatus and method for preventing the misfiring of a protection device. The protection device includes line terminals and load terminals. The protection device further includes a latching mechanism, adapted to move between a closed state which establishes electrical contact between said line and load terminals, and an open state which prevents electrical contact between said line and load terminals; and an initial reset prevention mechanism, adapted to prevent said latching mechanism from being set in said closed state until power is applied to said line terminals.

A method and apparatus for a protection device for indicating when ground fault protection is not being provided by the protection device. The protection device includes source and load terminals between a conductive path and face terminals. The protection device further includes a latching mechanism, adapted to be operable between a first state in which the latching mechanism permits electrical contact between the source terminals and the load terminals and a second state in which the contact is broken; an alarm indicator, adapted to provide an indication that the protection device is not providing ground fault protection; and a fuse, adapted to blow when the latching mechanism fails to open during a manual test of the protection device.

A GFCI is provided that has secondary test switch contacts. In case closing of the primary test switch contacts fails to trip the GFCI, subsequent closing of the secondary test switch contacts results in a short circuit between the AC input terminals of the GFCI. The short circuit blows a fuse disposed on the line side of the GFCI. The blowing of the fuse disables the GFCI and/or provides an indication to the user that the GFCI is defective.

A fire rated poke-through floor fitting for extending through an aperture in a floor having a conduit with a first surface and a second surface and at least one passageway extending from the first surface to the second surface. Electrical wire passes from a side door of the floor, through a conduit, to a second side of the floor. Intumescent material is located adjacent the at least passageway an expands inwardly through the at least one passageway when it is exposed to a predetermined amount of heat, resisting transfer of heat, smoke, and flame from the second side of the floor of the first side of the floor.

Large capacity fire rated poke through fitting

A fire-rated, poke-through floor fitting preferably for use in a three inch diameter bore within a floor. The fitting has an electrical receptacle that is sized to fit within the three inch bore. The receptacle preferably has two pairs of electrical outlets coupled to the electrical receptacle along with four voice/data jacks. The fitting provides a high number of electrical outlets and voice/data jacks, while maintaining a relatively low profile and easy accessibility. Each pair of electrical outlets can be separately connected to different power sources or each pair can be connected to the same power source. The bus bars of the receptacle can have various configurations, including non-overlapping orientations.

A ground fault receptacle housing for an electrical device having a backing portion with a base and a wall extending from the base. The wall has a hoop portion that forms an exterior channel extending therethrough. A cover portion is adapted to couple to the backing portion and has a front face with apertures therein for access to the electrical device. A wall extends from the front face and has a substantially inflexible post extending from the wall. The post has a body portion and a tapered protrusion thereon, the protrusion having a largest perimeter that is greater than at least a perimeter in portion of the exterior channel. When the protrusion passes through the channel, at least a portion of the hoop portion stretches, while the wall extending from the base of the backing portion remains substantially stationary. The protrusion is adapted to engage the end surface of hoop portion after passing through the channel, while the body portion of the post is positioned within the channel without substantially stretching the hoop portion when the protrusion engages the end surface.

A raceway assembly includes a raceway and a cover assembly removably coupled to the raceway. The cover assembly is mounted flush on the raceway to avoid restriction of the channels formed in the raceway. The cover assembly includes at least one base that is snapped onto the raceway for supporting a wiring device and includes an access opening for accessing wires or cables in the raceway. The base can be used alone or can be assembled in a ganged relation with an identical base. A cover having an access opening is coupled to the base to enclose the base and the electrical data, telecommunications device. A face plate covers the access opening of the cover and is attached to the wiring device to secure the cover to the wiring device, base and raceway.

Outlet cover assembly for raceway

A feed through receptacle box assembly includes a base and a housing for supporting a receptacle and connecting to a raceway. A channel member is removably coupled to the base to provide a closed passage for feeding a wire or cable through the housing to isolate the wire or cable from the receptacle. The receptacle can be a duplex electrical receptacle or a telecommunications port that is connected to a respective wire or cable passing through the raceway. In embodiments, the channel member includes at least one intermediate wall forming a plurality of side-by-side passages. The channel member includes frangible lines for separating a portion of the channel member to allow access to a respective wire or cable passing through the passages of the channel member.

A wiring device incorporating contrasting areas for having electrical circuit-identifying indicia or legends written thereon, and more particularly, a wiring device incorporating means for identifying diverse electrical circuitry through the application onto the device of indicia or legends written on a surface of preferably contrasting colors. Furthermore, disclosed is a method of imparting through imprinting color contrasting areas for the writing thereon of indicia or legends to a wiring device for the purpose of being able to identify at least one electrical circuit which is a plurality of electrical circuits which are connected to the wiring device.

Wiring device with electrical circuit-identifying means

A multi-channel duct for enclosing conductors, cables, wires, power lines, communications lines and the like. The multi-channel duct includes an elongated base with an elongated divider dividing the base into two channels, and a pair of elongated covers with the outer cover overlying both channels and the inner cover overlying one of the channels. Preferably, the inner cover is integrally formed with the divider and has a precurved portion for preloading the inner cover when in its closed position. The divider and inner cover are preferably detachable from the base by a frangible seam for converting the two channel duct to a single channel duct.
