A turbine housing section includes a radially inner case centered on a first axis, and a radially outer case spaced radially outwardly of the inner case, and centered on a second axis. The first and second axes are offset relative to each other. A plurality of tie rods include a threaded nut received on a tie rod, with the plurality of tie rods connecting the inner and outer cases. The plurality of tie rods are spaced circumferentially about both of the first and second axes, and extend for distinct lengths between the inner and outer cases such that the inner and outer cases are held at a position wherein the first and second axes are offset.

A gas turbine engine and a retaining ring are disclosed. The gas turbine engine includes a rotating disc assembly, including a rotating disc, a cover plate, and a retaining ring disposed between the rotating disc and the cover plate, wherein the retaining ring axially retains the rotating disc and the cover plate, the retaining ring including a rotating disc face to interface with the rotating disc; a cover plate face to interface with the cover plate; and an end gap portion defining an end gap, wherein at least one of the rotating disc face, the cover plate face, and the end gap portion includes a stress reducing feature.

A retaining ring assembly for a gas turbine engine may include a first engine component and a second engine component. A retaining ring may be disposed between the first engine component and the second engine component. The retaining ring may be circumferentially discontinuous and may include a first terminal portion having at least one of a tapered or a contoured geometry. A thickness of the retaining ring at the first terminal portion may be less than a thickness of the retaining ring away from the first terminal portion.

A gas turbine engine includes a first non-contacting dynamic rotor seal interfaced with a spool, the first non-contacting dynamic seal operates to seal adjacent to an outer diameter and a second non-contacting dynamic rotor seal with respect to the spool, the second non-contacting dynamic seal operates to seal adjacent to an inner diameter.

A hydrostatic seal and vibration damping apparatus for a gas turbine engine adapted to reduce vibrations during cold engine start-ups is disclosed. In one disclosed configuration, the vibration damping apparatus is comprised of a temperature sensitive control ring having a relatively high coefficient of thermal expansion adapted to expand quickly at relatively low temperatures to protect the hydrostatic seal during such gas turbine engine startups. At operational temperatures, the control ring is adapted to become separated from the hydrostatic sea.

According to an example embodiment, a gas turbine engine assembly includes, among other things, a compressor. A strut near the compressor includes a flow passage through a portion of the strut. The flow passage is configured to direct air from the compressor to another portion of the gas turbine engine. The flow passage has at least one surface feature that at least partially hinders some airflow through the flow passage.

A turbine section has a turbine rotor carrying turbine blades. The turbine blades include seal members at a radially inner location. A vane section is formed of a plurality of circumferentially spaced vane components, each of which has an airfoil extending radially outwardly of a platform. A first seal member is fixed to the platform, and is positioned to be adjacent a seal from a blade which is positioned in one axial direction relative to the first seal member. A second seal member extends circumferentially beyond at least a plurality of the vane components and is positioned to be adjacent a seal member of a blade on an opposed axial side from the first blade. A vane component is also disclosed and claimed.

A disclosed vane assembly includes a vane section formed of a plurality of circumferentially spaced fixed vanes. The vanes extend radially outward from an inner platform and hooked into case. The inner platform includes a mount rail extending radially inwardly from the inner platform. An air seal is attached to the inner platform of the vane section and includes a ring extending circumferentially about the axis. The disclosed air seal includes a plurality of tabs that receive lugs disposed on the mount rail. A ring nut is secured to the air seal and engaged to the mount rail for securing the vane section to the air seal.

A cooling system for a gas turbine engine includes a first plenum, a first cooling flow passageway, and a second cooling flow passageway. The first cooling flow passageway is in fluid communication with the first plenum and with a first airfoil cooling channel within an airfoil of the stator vane. The first airfoil cooling channel is for cooling a leading edge of the airfoil. The second cooling flow passageway is in fluid communication with the first plenum and with a platform cooling channel within an outer diameter platform of the stator vane. The first cooling flow passageway and the second cooling flow passageway are disposed within a mounting hook. The first cooling flow passageway and the second cooling flow passageway are not in fluid communication with each other.

A mechanism for use in a gas turbine engine has a cover plate, a rotor disk, a first slot in the cover plate, a second slot in the rotor disk, a first finger in the cover plate extending through the second slot, and a second finger in the rotor disk extending through the first slot. The first finger and the second finger form a channel and a holder is disposed in the channel for locking the rotor disk and the cover plate together.

Gas turbine engine systems involving rotor bayonet coverplates and tools for installing such coverplates are provided. In this regard, a representative turbine assembly for a gas turbine engine includes: a turbine disk operative to mount a set of turbine blades; and a coverplate having an annular main body portion and a spaced annular arrangement of tabs extending radially inwardly from the main body portion with open-ended gaps being located between the tabs, the tabs being operative to secure an inner diameter of the coverplate to the turbine disk.

A secondary flow system provides a compact injector cooling structure for turbine blades which includes an Angled On-board Injector (AOBI) that locates a metering throat at an inward angle relative to an engine centerline. The AOBI positions the metering throat at the inward angle relative to an engine centerline to communicate cooling airflow to an angled annular section of a turbine rotor disk coverplate.
