Disclosed herein are materials and methods for reducing, preventing, or eliminating the biological contamination of surfaces in spaces that are reasonably partitioned, defined or contained. A reagent that includes peroxides or molecules that includes peroxide bonds are contacted with at least one surface of an article. Some of these methods include disinfection within an apparatus and may include the step of volatilizing the peroxide bond containing agent, through, for example, vapor pressure and vaporization or evaporation effects, the addition of volatilization aids, or passive or assisted diffusion at modest temperatures and relatively long exposure times measured in some embodiments on the order of hours, days, or months. In some embodiments a liquid that includes a peroxide moiety is added (for example, during manufacture or subsequently) to a package, container, or any other reasonably partitioned or contained volume and allowed to migrate within the confined space for a period of time sufficient to disinfect the inner surfaces of the container and articles it contains.

Methods for disinfecting or sterilizing articles

Methods for killing spores include contacting the spores with an aqueous solution containing performic acid. The contacting occurs at a temperature of less than or equal to about 35&#xb0; C. for a period of time of less than or equal to about 15 seconds, and the contacting effects at least a 4 log reduction in a number of spores capable of reproduction, metabolism, and/or growth.

Methods for sterilization and/or disinfection

Shuffleboard pucks are made of wood or plastic, and to gain maximum control over the puck it is common practice to wax the underside of the pucks, thereby insuring uniformity in the travel of the pucks over the court. This waxing of the puck is done by hand, holding the wax in contact with the puck. I have found a better way to do it by using an electric motor to rotate the puck in contact with a block of wax that is hand held. The outer edge of the puck has a tendency to receive more wax than does the inner edge because the outer edge of the puck travels a greater distance in contact with the hand held wax than does the inner areas. To overcome this I have devised an arrangement whereby the wax block is triangularly shaped to deposit a uniform coating of wax dependent on the distance from the center to deposit a uniform coating of wax over the entire area.
