Methods for introgressing an allele of interest of a locus associated with a yield trait intogermplasm are provided. In some embodiments, the methods include providing aplant that contains an allele of interest of a locus associated with a yield trait, wherein the locus associated with the yield trait is identifiable by PCR amplification of anucleic acid with a pair of oligonucleotides primers as disclosed herein, and introgressing the allele of interest intogermplasm that lacks the allele. Also provided are methods for identifyingplants that contain at least one allele associated with improved yield, improved maize plants, eliteplants, biomass produced from improvedplants, isolated and purified genetic markers, and compositions that include an amplification primer pair capable of amplifying anucleic acid to generate amarker amplicon.

Yield traits for maize

The invention overcomes the deficiencies of the prior art by providing methods for marker assisted selection to create plants of a soybean variety that exhibit a mid/low linolenic acid content with a commercially significant yield and an agronomically elite phenotype. The invention also provides derivatives and plant parts of these plants. Further provided by the invention are methods for the use of these plants. The invention is significant in that oil with decreased linolenic acid exhibits numerous beneficial characteristics yet prior art varieties with decreased linolenic acid also exhibited decreased yield and poor agronomic quality.

High yielding soybean plants with low linolenic acid

The invention overcomes the deficiencies of the art by providing an agronomically elite soybean plant with non-transgenic mutations of at least two of the glycinin subunits selected from the group consisting of Gy1, Gy2, Gy3, Gy4, and Gy5, such as conferring a Gy2 and Gy4 null phenotype and increased &#x3b2;-conglycinin content in seed. The invention also provides derivatives, and plant parts of these plants and uses thereof. Methods for marker assisted selection of soybean varieties comprising non-transgenic mutations conferring a reduced Gy1, Gy2, Gy3, Gy4, and Gy5 phenotype are also provided as part of the current invention. Methods for producing such plants that are further lipoxygenase and/or Kunitz Trypsin Inhibitor null and the plants produced thereby are also provided. The invention is significant in that soybeans from such plants are preferred dietary additives and provide important health benefits.

Agronomically elite soybeans with high &#x3b2;-conglycinin content

Provided herein are methods for evaluating associations between candidate genes and a trait of interest in a population. The methods include a combination of genome-wide association analysis and one or more of nested association mapping (NAM), expression QTL analysis (eQTL), and allele epistastic analysis (AEA). Markers are selected or prioritized if they are shown to be positively-correlated with a trait of interest using GWA and a combination of one or both of NAM and eQTL. Also provided are models for evaluating the association between a candidate marker and a trait in a nested population of organisms. These methods include single marker regression and multiple marker regression models. Markers identified using the methods of the invention can be used in marker assisted breeding and selection, as genetic markers for constructing linkage maps, for gene discovery, for identifying genes contributing to a trait of interest, and for generating transgenic organisms having a desired trait.

Method for selecting statistically validated candidate genes

The present invention is in the field of plant biochemistry. More specifically the invention relates to nucleic acid sequences from plant cells, in particular, DNA sequences from maize and soybean plants associated with the methionine pathway. The invention encompasses nucleic acid molecules that encode proteins and fragments of proteins. In addition, the invention also encompasses proteins and fragments of proteins so encoded and antibodies capable of binding these proteins or fragments. The invention also relates to methods of using the nucleic acid molecules, proteins and fragments of proteins and antibodies, for example for genome mapping, gene identification and analysis, plant breeding, preparation of constructs for use in plant gene expression and transgenic plants.

Nucleic acid molecules associated with the methionine synthesis and degradation pathways

The invention overcomes the deficiencies of the prior art by providing plants of soybean variety 0137335, which exhibits high seed protein and protein plus oil in combination with high yield. The invention also provides derivatives and plant parts of these plants. Further provided by the invention are methods for the use of the plant. The invention is significant in that oil and protein are important agronomic characteristics, but the value of these traits is diminished or eliminated when coupled with decreased yield.

The invention further relates to hybrid soybean seeds and plants produced by crossing the cultivar S030150 with another soybean cultivar.
