Filter unit

A filter unit includes a body portion that receives a water filter. An engaging portion is coupled to the body portion. A bypass actuator rotates relative to the engaging portion to rotationally and axially operate a bypass valve of a fluid manifold. The bypass actuator drives axial engagement of the engaging portion with a valve assembly of the fluid manifold. The bypass actuator extends through the body portion and the engaging portion.

A removable water dispenser for an appliance having a manifold with a first water connected to a household water supply, a first water outlet connected to the first water inlet, a second water inlet, and a second water outlet connected to the second water inlet. The removable water dispenser also has a dispenser removably attached to a home appliance and having a housing, a cover coupled with the housing, a dispensing outlet, and a filter connected to the first outlet, the second inlet, and the dispensing outlet, and the dispenser dispenses filtered water to a user.

A filtration system for an appliance includes a water source coupled with the appliance to provide an intake water flow. A filter unit is coupled with water source to receive the intake water flow and dispense a filtered water flow. An isolation valve is coupled between the water source and the filter unit and movable between a first position and a second position. A distribution valve is coupled with an ice maker and a water dispenser of the appliance. The distribution valve receives the filtered water flow when the isolation valve is in the first position, and the distribution valve receives the intake water flow via a bypass line when the isolation valve is in the second position. The isolation valve is configured to move to the second position upon expiration of the service life of the filter unit.

One embodiment of the present invention is directed to a clamping device with an attached arm in which the act of opening the clamp makes the arm flexible and the act of closing the clamp makes the arm rigid. By operating in this manner, the present invention may allow a worker to position the arm (while flexible) in any number of different and easily attainable positions while also allowing the worker to secure a workpiece and immobilize the arm in a single step. In another embodiment of the present invention the arm can be made flexible independently of opening the clamp.
