Particular aspects provide novel atomizers for generating particles over a broad range of MMAD size distributions, the eliminating the requirement for an impaction baffle in generating the desired particle sizes. In particular aspects, the atomization means communicates with a remote particle filter member configured and positioned to provide for particle size filtering. In additional aspects, the atomization means communicates with a particle dispersion chamber suitable to impart a desired particle flow pattern to particles within and exiting the dispersion chamber. In further aspects, the atomization means communicates with a nasal, ocular, oral or 'vicinity' adapter. The novel devices provide for targeted (e.g., nasal, ocular, oral, local vicinity), systemic, and/or topical delivery of an atomized liquid (e.g., via the nasal cavity, olfactory region, and mouth). Further exemplary aspects relate to aerosolization and delivery of perfume, fragrance, essential oil or cosmeceutical agents and the like.

The preferred embodiment of the invention contemplates a device configured to prepare and deploy a resilient sleeve on to a portion of body tissue. The device expands the resilient sleeve, uses a vacuum system to draw the body tissue in to the resilient sleeve, and releases the resilient sleeve from the expanded state so that it captures and constricts the body tissue.

A constriction device that constricts body tissue is configured to be safely sutured to constricted body tissue. The device includes a generally cylindrical elastic sleeve including opposed opened ends and having a wall of substantially uniform thickness that receives body tissue therein to be constricted. The sleeve includes a plurality of suture holes to receive a suture to maintain the sleeve the tissue constricted by the sleeve. The sleeve includes a suture hole reinforcement structure, as for example an increased wall thickness, about each suture hole to permit the device to be sutured to constricted body tissue without damaging the device.

A system for performing fluid jet myocardial revascularization includes a catheter having a proximal region, a distal region, a lumen extending therethrough and a valve disposed in the lumen for allowing the passage of fluids in the lumen to create holes in the myocardium. A valve control means extends through the proximal region of the catheter to open and close the valve. In one embodiment, the valve also includes a biasing mechanism for biasing the valve in a closed position. The valve may be controlled using an electrically actuated device that is heated with an electrical current to open and close the valve. In one embodiment of the invention, the catheter has a wall that can be expanded within a guide catheter to anchor the catheter during revascularization.

An ablation burr has a body provided with an inner circumferential rim and an outer circumferential rim that are concentric and spaced longitudinally by a selected distance along the length of the burr. The outer circumferential rim has a generally smooth convex outer surface that reduces damage to a vessel wall or stent A leading surface of the burr extends between the inner and outer circumferential rims in a substantially uniform, concave manner. An abrasive, for example, diamond grit, is provided on the leading surface. The burr is selectively rotated by a drive shaft, causing the abrasive leading surface of the burr to ablate unwanted deposits. If desired, a wire extends co-axially through the body such that a distal end of the wire extends out of the distal end of the burr. An abrasive tip may be coupled to the distal end of the wire, and is selectively rotated, to ablate unwanted deposits. The burr may be made of a compressible elastomeric material, to facilitate positioning the burr through restrictive openings, such as the coronary ostia. To prevent the burr from becoming welded to a spring tip at the end of the guide wire, a bearing may be provided at a distal region of the guide wire. The bearing has a dynamic member that acts as a bumper and rotates when the ablation device is advanced to the distal region of the guide wire and contacts the dynamic member. In an alternative embodiment, the leading surface of the burr includes one or more aspiration ports through which debris that is ablated from the occlusion may be removed from a patient's vessel.

A guide wire for use in atherectomy procedures has a bearing with a static member fixedly secured to the guide wire and a dynamic member rotatably engaged to the static member. The dynamic member can rotate with an atherectomy burr if the burr engages the bearing.
