Triboelectric sensors which generate electrical signals in response to mechanical disturbances creating relative motion of conducting and dielectric components of the sensor are fabricated from thin metal foil which is plastic-coated on one side and which can be formed into elongated, cable-like sensors having a variety of other shapes and sizes. The foil encloses one or more wire-like inner electrical conductors which, may be sealed within the envelope formed by the outer foil by heat-sealing the plastic-coated foil. A technique similar to welding may be used in which electrodes are placed in contact with opposing faces of the metal foil and an electrical current is passed though the foil. Local heating of the foil and of the plastic coating near the point of contact of one or both electrodes can cause the plastic to melt and the opposing plastic faces to bond together.

Nuclear cyclophilin

A system is described for the automatic detection of ball bounces on a tennis court, and which is applicable to similar games. The system comprises a sonar-like sound system in conjunction with a pressure-sensitive system located on the court surface itself. The sound system uses a multiplicity of microphones to detect and means to analyze the sounds and to calculate the position of sounds identified as balls striking the court surface. The pressure system is used to detect ball bounces on the boundary lines themselves, and utilizes coaxial cables as the sensing elements. The pressure system is checked only when the sound system determines that a ball is bouncing on or near one of the boundary lines. Processing is done by a personal computer to which a special interface card is added.

Automated tennis line calling system

An omnidirectional pressure sensing head includes a rotatable hub; a channel extending through the hub having an inlet and an outlet; and a single pressure sensing port in the hub disposed in the channel between the inlet and outlet for sensing the dynamic pressure of the fluid through the channel which is a function of the speed of the hub through the fluid and the rotational speed of the hub.

Omnidirectional pressure sensing head

An omnidirectional speed sensing system includes a rotatable member; a channel supported by the rotatable member and having an inlet and an outlet; a single pressure sensing port in the system disposed the channel between the inlet and the outlet for sensing the dynamic pressure of the fluid flow through the channel which pressure is a function of the rotational speed of the rotatable member and the velocity of the rotatable member through the fluid; transducer means responsive to the pressure at the sensing port for producing a pressure signal; means responsive to the pressure signal for extracting the first harmonic of the pressure signal; and means responsive to the magnitude and phase of the first harmonic of the pressure signal for indicating the velocity and direction of the sensed speed.

Harmonically filtered speed sensing system

A multi-digit, mixed-base or mixed-radix counter of the type used in digital computing devices wherein the value of each digit of the counter is stored in two parts: a first part being the normal numerical value except in certain exceptional cases; and a second part which is zero except in the exceptional cases in which it is a binary one. The exceptional case is when the value to be represented by the counter digit is a terminal digit value, i.e., a maximum digit value when the counter is incrementing or zero value when the counter is decrementing. In the case of a decrementing counter where the normal terminal digit value is a zero, each zero value is replaced with the corresponding maximum digit value for that digit in the first part of the counter, but the second part of the counter identifies in which (if any) of the digits of the first part of the counter such a substitution has been made. This quick-acting counter experiences changes of one digit value at any counting state and can be used to generate sequences of addresses through the addition of successive increments wherein the proper increment is based on the state of only the second part of the counter.
