The present invention relates to a sensor device () for sensing physiological information of a subject. To efficiently avoid or reduce ambient interference, the sensor device comprises a communication unit () for receiving, from an external source, context information indicating one or more of a modulation mode, settings of an interference reduction algorithm, and spectral information indicating an ambient light spectrum, said spectral information allowing the sensor device to determine the modulation mode and/or settings of an interference reduction algorithm, one or more light emitters () for emitting modulated light onto the tissue of the subject, and a light detector () for detecting light which is transmitted through the tissue or/and which is reflected from the tissue. The sensor device further comprises a light modulator () for modulating light in accordance with the modulation mode indicated by or determined from the received context information and a light demodulator () for demodulating the detected light in accordance with the modulation mode used by the light modulator for modulating light and/or a processing unit () for performing an interference reduction algorithm for reducing ambient light interference with settings indicated by or determined from the received context information.

Sensor device and method, device and method for communication with the sensor device

When configuring multiple patient monitors () in a healthcare environment, configuration is simplified and setup time is reduced by employing barcoded configuration information that is scanned into the monitors () using a barcode scanner (). A first monitor () is configured by selectively scanning one or more barcodes contained in a configuration booklet. Once the first monitor () is configured, its configuration information is stored and printed in barcoded format. The printed barcodes are then scanned into a second patient monitor (), without requiring the user to navigate the configuration barcode booklet a second time. Additionally, a patient's ID barcode is printed on vital signs records generated by the monitor, such as by a strip chart recorder or printer ().

An ultrasonic imaging system including a power on self test (POST) and an extended self test (EST). The POST includes (a) a verification test, (b) a register test (c) a controller test, (d) a receive digital signal path test and (e) a basic front end test. The POST is initiated, performed and completed within a short time, such as three seconds, from power ON. The EST is performed after the POST at the discretion of an operator, and includes a transmit test, a transducer element test, a front end voltage test and a receive test.

A portable, configurable and scalable ultrasonic imaging system uses a phased ultrasonic transducer array coupled to a portable, configurable and scalable ultrasonic processor to develop ultrasonic images. When used in conjunction with a sector phased array, the portable, configurable and scalable ultrasonic imaging system uses a processing channel associated with each element in the transducer array to develop the ultrasonic image. When used with a linear or curved linear transducer array, the portable, configurable and scalable ultrasonic processor uses fewer processing channels than transducer elements to develop the ultrasonic image. Since the portable, configurable and scalable ultrasonic processor is scalable, it is able to use a variety of processors, software and transducer arrays to develop a number of different ultrasonic output images. The portable, configurable and scalable ultrasound imaging system includes a scalable architecture and includes alternative software configurable imaging applications and operating modes, and includes modifiable processing algorithms and operating features.

A thermal management system for a portable battery powered electronic device, and particularly, a portable battery powered ultrasound device, which controls the temperature of the device such that the external surface temperature satisfies medical safety regulatory requirements, and such that the heat generated by the device does not reduce battery life, reduce component life, decrease reliability of the device, or cause device shutdown because of overheating. A thermal management system monitors the respective temperatures of various system components, and, based on the monitored temperatures, performs control to cool the ultrasound system, maintaining the external surface temperature below the safety regulated temperatures and ensuring reliability of system components. The thermal management system controls the system temperature and external surface temperature by various measures, including controlling operation of a cooling fan; modifying system parameters to change an operating mode of the ultrasound system; controlling clocking of the system circuitry by selectively enabling or disabling circuitry; and modifying a charging profile of the battery.

A sub-beamforming method and apparatus are applied to a portable, one-dimensional ultrasonic imaging system. The sub-beamforming circuitry may be included in the probe s assembly housing the ultrasonic transducer, thus minimizing the number of signals that are communicated between the probe assembly and the portable processor included in the imaging system. Including the sub-beamformer in the probe assembly also relieves the portable processor of some of the signal processing tasks. The sub-beamforming apparatus may be implemented digitally or may be implemented using analog components.

A MR compatible monitoring system has a fiber optic data link between the patient monitor and the control room display/keyboard in a magnetic resonance imaging suite to allow for continuous monitoring of a patient's vital signs and provides critical care patients with the same diagnostic options as stable patients. The patient monitor is mounted on the far end of a magnetic resonance compatible patient transporter. The patient transporter sends video data and receives control data from the control room. During the imaging, the patient monitor is located within the magnet room. Magnetic resonance imaging systems are very sensitive to radio frequency interference (RFI) from other equipment and may produce image artifacts because of this interference. Using a fiber optic data link between the patient monitor near the magnet and the control room will minimize the potential RFI.

A system for displaying selected images on a video display device is provided. One or more sources of image frames are included which sources may be digital or analog and which sources may present pixel data in different selected formats. A frame memory is provided which is adapted to store a plurality of memory frames each of which may store one or more image frames to be displayed. Image frames are selectively stored in the memory frames of the frame memory in the format in which they are received. The images may be stored in full size or may be compressed for windowing display and selected information concerning image frames may be utilized to control the mapping of values stored for the pixels of the image frames. A display frame may be formed of two or more compressed image frames with each image frame being read out from a selected memory frame which memory frame may be independent of or the same as the memory frame for other read out images. Certain images may contain two or more different types of information which may be selectively processed when read out from a frame memory to cause the content of such multiple information images to be displayed as multiple separate images containing the content of the image frame in various permutations and combinations. Color mapping using the same or different criteria may also be provided, with the color mapping being independent for each of the image frames being simultaneously displayed.
