A device for mounting a liquid crystal display (LCD) to a circuit board without requiring bolts, screws or auxiliary pieces, comprises a holder positioned between the LCD and circuit board and a cover member positioned around the LCD and holder. The cover member is formed with end clips that snap fit around opposite sides of the circuit board to retain the lower surface of the holder in contact with the board. Opposite sides of the holder are formed with through channels containing Zebra elastomeric strips for establishing electrical connections between the circuit board and the LCD. The LCD is retained within the mounting device by resilient members formed on the cover member and holder and maintained in contact with the LCD.

Liquid crystal mounting and connection scheme

An uninsulated contact array of resilient electrically conducting metal with bridging strips at each end to hold multiple conductors in predetermined spaced relation to each other. The bridging strips permit terminal tips at one end of the conductors to be stabbed into a circuit board simultaneously, for subsequent soldering. The other ends of the conductors, having contact ends, are maintained in spaced apart relation by a second bridging strip, the conductors and contacts permitting threading the contact ends simultaneously into multiple recesses of a display holder socket. The display holder socket is so arranged, that curving the resilient conductors increases the contact pressure of the contacts by bowing them. Resilient mounting arms of the contact holder provide for shock proof mounting of the contact holder in a casing by clamping the resilient arms between the casing and cover of an instrument housing.

Conductor arrangement and assembly method

A combination display window cover, tilt stand, and handle for a portable instrument, the unit serving each of these functions by virtue of an integrally formed appropriately shaped unit which can preferably be molded as a single piece of elastomeric material and does not introduce any substantial cost increase over and above a conventional handle. The invention is suited for use in conjunction with a portable instrument which includes a housing of generally parallelepiped configuration having relatively large area front and rear opposing surfaces and relatively small area top, bottom and opposing side surfaces, the housing having a display window extending across its front surface relatively near the top edge thereof and substantially parallel to the top edge. In accordance with the invention, there is provided a combination display window cover, handle, and tilt stand unit which comprises first and second generally triangular members, each pivotally mounted at about one of its corners on opposite side surfaces of the housing and relatively near the top surface of the housing. A generally rectangular panel joins the edges of the triangular members which are opposite the said one corners of the triangular members. The triangular members are proportioned such that when the unit is pivoted to its limit over the front surface the panel overlays the display window and when the unit is pivoted to a position over the rear surface, one edge of the panel is spaced from the rear surface whereby the instrument can be seated on a working surface at a stable tilt position resting on its rear bottom edge and said one edge of the panel.

Combination display cover, handle, and tilt stand for portable

Disclosed is a system for translating tracks of magnetically encoded data on a flexible medium into corresponding visually readable characters. The system comprises a drum of generally cylindrical shape mounted for rotation about an axis. The medium is affixed to an exterior surface of the drum with the magnetically encoded side facing outwardly and is oriented such that the data tracks are substantially perpendicularly aligned with the drum axis. A magnetic read head is mounted to contact the medium surface and is stepped in directions parallel to the drum axis. The drum is designed to provide a zone substantially perpendicular to the areas of rotation where the head does not contact and therefore does not read the medium. Means are provided on the drum so that the head is stepped to a different track when the zone is opposite the head. The electrical outputs of the read head are utilized in the printing out of corresponding visually readable characters on another medium.
