An apparatus for selecting between sets of pickups for a stringed musical instrument including a top plate with two sets of pickups embedded therein that is rotationally attached to a back plate. The apparatus includes an electrical connector that enables electrical connection between the pickups and the instrument. The apparatus further includes attachment structure enabling fastening of the instrument to a backside of the instrument. The apparatus is configured to extend through a body of the instrument such that the top plate is adjacent strings of the instrument.

The embodiments herein provide a system and method for instantly switching sound pickups in an electric guitar using a spin wheel arrangement in the middle of a song. The spin wheel houses a pickup assembly with multiple pickups. The spin wheel allows a guitar player to easily roll neck pickup to bridge position and bridge pickup to neck position in middle of a song by rotating the spin wheel. A click stop arrangement halts wheel rotation after completing a semi-circular rotation around a center screw. The backend portion of pickups is connected to spring loaded plunger. The contact pads at bottom portion of guitar body establishes electrical connections between pickups and control components. The pickups under the strings get activated. The spin wheel arrangement allows a guitar player to add favorite pickups for generating various tonalities beyond the limit of a single guitar.

A communication device transmits very low frequency signals in order to help diagnose the cause of a communication problem in a DSL communication system. The communication problem may be, for example, the inability of a remote data transceiver unit (DTU-R) to successfully train-up with a central data transceiver unit (DTU-C). The very low frequency signals may be used to communicate the status or settings of the remote transceiver unit to the DTU-C, to download settings parameters or executable code to the DTU-R, or to coordinate the transmission of testing signals.

The preferred embodiments of the present invention generally provide improved communications over a subscriber loop that is loaded with at least one and potentially a plurality of load coils. The preferred embodiments of the present invention will work over loaded subscriber loops that also support a native POTS interface as well as over loaded subscriber loops that are not providing a native POTS interface. Furthermore, although the preferred embodiments of the present invention are intended to address the technical and business problems of service providers delivering digital subscriber line service over loaded loops, the preferred embodiments will also work over unloaded loops. Various duplexing strategies such as, but not limited to, time-division duplexing (TDD), adaptive time-division duplexing (ATDD), four-wire duplexing, and/or extended performance echo cancelled duplexing (EP ECD) provide improved performance on loaded loops that generally offer significant signal attenuation at frequencies above 4 KHz. In addition, such duplexing strategies can start and stop quickly enough to pass various POTS interface signaling generally without creating a significant adverse effect on DSL data communications.

A method and system for robust delimiting of transmitted messages in switched-carrier operation in which a preamble precedes each communication message with the preamble comprising symbols transmitted at a rate lower than that of the following data. The lower rate symbols of the preamble significantly increase the probability that the decoder will decode the preamble symbols error free. Communication line control information can be included in the robust preamble, thereby ensuring that line control information is reliably transferred over the communication channel. The first symbol of the preamble can be transmitted at the lower symbol rate and at an increased power level, thereby clearly and reliably delimiting the beginning of a transmission. The end of the communication message can be reliably delimited by sending the first symbol containing only bits from a next cell of information at a lower symbol rate and including an extra bit in that symbol. The extra bit can be set to indicate to a receiver whether the last cell of information has just begun.

The present invention provides a method and apparatus for multi-protocol, point-to-point communications which allocates processing tasks between a processor of an end point device and a processor of a communication device. The processor of the end point device performs all higher level protocol processing and the processor of the communication device performs lower level protocol processing. Internet service providers usually have several modems connected to each host computer for providing simultaneous point-to-point communication with a plurality of end users. The modems normally are located on cards which reside inside of the host computer, which may be a personal computer. To prevent the host processor from having to perform all of the protocol processing tasks for each session, the present invention provides for off-loading at least a portion of the Point-to-Point Protocol processing onto the modem processors. The host and the communication device or devices are interfaced via a shared memory device. This increases throughput and leaves the host processor free to perform other tasks. Preferably, the modem processors perform the portion of Point-to-Point Protocol processing which includes framing and unframing, Frame Check Sequence generation and checking and shielding and unshielding.

The invention includes a hookswitch position detector, connected to the telephone set, for sensing the current position of the hookswitch, and a signal controller, connected to the hookswitch position detector. The signal controller may be configured to enable either of two hookswitch control option settings. The hookswitch control option settings determine the manner in which the controller responds to the current hookswitch position ('on-hook' or 'off-hook') detected by the hookswitch position detector. The first hookswitch control option setting causes the signal controller to disable the initiation of SVD operation by the modem when originating and receiving calls if the hookswitch position detector indicates that the hookswitch position is 'off-hook.' The analog signal, generally limited in magnitude to less than half the distance separating the symbols, is converted to component signals and added (i.e., vector addition) to the symbols. The sum signal is then transmitted to the receiver where the symbols are detected and subtracted from the received signal to yield the analog signal components. The transmitted analog signal is recreated from those components. Both half-duplex and full-duplex operation is available in accordance with this invention. The illustrative embodiment includes a controller that is sensitive to input signals applied to the modem disclosed herein. To wit, the control is sensitive to signals from the analog port, signals from the digital port, and signals from the port that carries the combined digital and analog signals. Operation of the near-end modem is controlled as well as operation of the far-end modem.
