The chromate free corrosion resistant coating for a fastener contains corrosion inhibiting inorganic constituents, or a combination of inorganic and organic corrosion inhibiting constituents, suspended in a phenol-formaldehyde thermosetting resin. The coating material possesses high abrasion resistance, and provides good lubricity and relatively low friction, rendering it especially suited for use with interference-fit fasteners.

Chromate free corrosion resistant coating

The faying surface of one or of both of a pair of substrates is provided with a layer of solid polyurethane sealant which is adherent to at least one of the respective surfaces. The substrates are additionally fastened together so that the faying surfaces compress the polyurethane sealant between them to form a fluid seal across the entire spacing between the two surfaces, and between the polyurethane sealant and the faying surfaces themselves.

Solid sealant with environmentally preferable corrosion resistance

A sealant for forming a fluid seal between the faying surface of two metallic substrates that are compressively and mechanically joined together. The sealant is a liquid in its pre-cured condition and a dry solid in its cured condition. The transition of the sealant from its pre-cured condition to its cured condition occurs at room temperature. The sealant's curing time is not less than about 10 minutes and not more than about 16 hours. The cured sealant has a Shore A hardness between about 30 and 70. The cured sealant is impermeable and resistant to chemical attack by air, water, common solvents and petroleum fuels. Also, the cured sealant is resistant to compressive cold flow, however, the cured sealant is deformable to conform to an abutting surface or with a layer of similar sealant. The cured sealant is flexible and resistant to temperatures between about -65 degrees F. and about 250 degrees F. The sealant is formed by curing a mixture containing an isocyanate having at least two functionalities, a polyol having at least two functionalities, and between about 1% and 50% barium chromate, strontium chromate or zinc chromate by weight of the sealant.

Fluid sealing between faying surfaces utilizing a solid sealant

A waterbed mattress comprises an external envelope and is provided with an internal layer of viscous, polymeric sealing material for sealing punctures in the mattress. The polymeric material can be poly(ether)urethane, which is prevented from sticking to itself by a barrier layer of polyethylene. The mattress is formed from two sheets of polymeric material secured together where the sealing material and barrier are attached to the sheet that forms the top wall of the mattress before the sheets are secured together.

Self-sealing waterbed mattress

Flexible self-sealing sheeting comprises a flexible, puncturable sheet of cloth or polymeric material, a layer of a self-adhering, water-resistant polyurethane sealing material, and an anti-tack barrier. The sheeting can be used to form a waterbed mattress, swimming pool, tent, inflatable boat, tarp, roof, and other self-sealing articles.

Self-sealing puncturable article

A waterbed mattress comprising an external envelope is provided with an internal layer of viscous, polymeric sealing material for sealing punctures in the mattress. The polymeric material can be polybutene filled with a particulate filler. The sealing material can be sandwiched between two layers of polyethylene to form an internal liner assembly that conforms generally to the shape of the external envelope of the waterbed mattress.

A conductive paint composition is disclosed comprising a hardenable fluid binder, metal particles selected from the group of nickel particles, aluminum particles and mixtures thereof, carbon particles, 2,4-pentanedione and a tintinate coupling agent. Nickel particles are the preferred metal particles. Solid particles comprise from about 20% to about 80% by weight of the composition. The weight ratio of metal particles to carbon particles is preferably from about 3:1 to about 15:1.

Conductive paint composition

A coated abrasion-resistant optical element, such as an eyeglass lens, formed of a typical rigid polymeric substrate of relatively low scratch resistance coated on at least one surface with a relatively soft, resilient, and tough transparent polymeric material. The essential characteristics of the coating material resulting in an abrasion-resistant protective film for the optical element are disclosed.
