Distributed computing is disclosed in which a client device accesses a service announcement for a broadcast service in order to retrieve transport parameters describing a data transmission service. The client device obtains a refresh rate from the service description file, which is separate from the data transmission service, wherein the refresh rate relates to a frequency at which the data transmission service updates data in a data transmission provided by the data transmission service. The client device uses the transport parameters to access the data transmission to receive the data. Once the data is received, the client device will delay any subsequent access to the data transmission to get updated data for a delay time based at least in part on the refresh rate.

In one example, a device includes a plurality of interfaces, wherein each of the interfaces is communicatively coupled to a respective one of a plurality of sources, a stream management unit configured to select, using a manifest file for multimedia content, one of a plurality of representations from which to retrieve multimedia data of the multimedia content, wherein the manifest file includes information indicative of the plurality of representations of the multimedia content, wherein the plurality of representations includes the selected representation, wherein multimedia data for the representations is available from the plurality of sources, and wherein the stream management unit is configured to select one of the sources from which to retrieve multimedia data for the selected representation, and a source component configured to retrieve multimedia data for the selected representation from the selected source via the one of the interfaces that is communicatively coupled to the selected source.

The method includes controlling access to services offered by one or more service providers, and discovering affiliation provisions associated with a device, wherein the affiliation provisions are associated with one or more selected service providers. The method also includes filtering the services according to the affiliation provisions to generate a package database of services offered by the one or more selected service providers, and transmitting the package database to the device.

Methods and apparatus for simultaneously hosting multiple service providers on a network

Methods, devices and systems for delivering broadcast data to client devices that do not support receiving broadcast transmissions. In an embodiment, a gateway device may be configured to receive a manifest file and related data segments via a first type of network protocol, such as LTE broadcasts. The manifest file may include data defining network addresses for one or more network resources, and may be modified to include a network address of a proxy server for the network resources. The proxy server may be configured to accept requests for data segments from client devices conforming to a second type of network protocol different from the first protocol, such as unicast. In an embodiment, the gateway device may transmit broadcast data for storage in a cache or alternatively a separate storage location accessible to the proxy server. The proxy server may be included in the gateway device or client devices.

Enabling devices without native broadcast capability to access and/or receive broadcast data in an efficient manner

Systems, methods, and receiver devices enable broadcasters with restricted content license areas (e.g., Designated Market Areas ('DMAs') to distribute content via Over the Top ('OTT') IP networks. Embodiments enable client reporting and authentication as well as broadcast content encryption. In an embodiment, information from the client may be reported back to the broadcasters, such as a view history/use report. In an embodiment, hand off between DMAs may be enabled. In an embodiment, local advertisement insertion in network content may be enabled. Embodiments may enable Multicast-Broadcast Single Frequency Network (&#x201c;MBSFN&#x201d;) operation across DMA boundaries.

Methods and apparatus for subscribing to multimedia delivery services in a data network. A method is provided for subscribing to receive a subscription package in a data network. The method includes receiving resource requirements associated with the subscription package, and determining whether or not selected resources are available to meet the resource requirements associated with the subscription package. The method also includes excluding a first portion of services associated with the subscription package, if it is determined that the selected resources fail to meet the resource requirements associated with the subscription package, and subscribing to receive a second portion of services associated with the subscription package, wherein resource requirements of the second portion of services are met by the selected resources.

Methods and apparatus for subscribing to multimedia delivery services in a data network

Apparatus and method for providing and receiving media programming information including providing programming package information comprising attributes of a package of media presentation channels. Further, a subscription characteristic is defined that determines an ability subscribe to the package and to present the programming package information on a device. The device operates to compare the subscription characteristic with device-related subscription information. The method comprises establishing an overhead notification mechanism, and transmitting a package database to a device using the overhead notification mechanism, wherein the package database identifies one or more service packages. The method also comprises receiving a request from the device to subscribe to one or more selected service packages.

Methods and apparatus for over-the-air subscriptions

Media distribution systems may include methods and apparatus to perform memory management on a wireless devices configured to receive non-real time portions of media services. Such methods and apparatus may be based upon an allowable capacity of presentations storable in device memory, as well as on a required memory associated with each presentation in a media service. Such methods and apparatus allow a device to subscribe to a media service based upon sufficient available memory in the device to support the service.
