An apparatus and process for cooling a pressurized gas for feeding to one or more vehicle fuel tanks for fueling a vehicle can be configured so that a pressurized gas (e.g. hydrogen or natural gas) for fueling one or more vehicles can be cooled prior to dispensing via a heat transfer fluid that cools the pressurized gas and transfers the heat of the pressurized gas toward fluid of a heat sink source. The transfer of the heat to the heat sink source fluid can occur via a refrigerant in some embodiments.

An apparatus and process for cooling down a liquid hydrogen or other cryogenic fluid pump can be configured to allow for a quick startup that also helps minimize hydrogen losses. Some embodiments can utilize a blow-by circuit configured and arranged to support the cryogenic cooldown operation for the pump that can minimize hydrogen loss while allowing substantially improved pump startup times. Some embodiments can utilize at least one temperature sensor to monitor temperature and an adjustable control valve that can facilitate the flow of the fluid utilized to perform the cooldown of the pump.

An apparatus for hydrogen dispensing can be configured to generate a display to be output visually to a customer that may use a dispenser to fill a fuel tank with hydrogen fuel. The display can include a graphical user interface or other interface that can show the customer information about the dispensing of fuel that is being provided to the user. This displayed information can include information to indicate an estimated time remaining to fully fill a vehicle's fuel tank so the customer can have visual and/or audible indications for how much longer the customer may have to wait to have the vehicle's fuel tank filled for continued use of the dispenser. This can improve the customer's experience at the fueling station. For instance, embodiments can allow the customer to more effectively use the fueling station and manage his or her time at the fueling station.

After dispensing hydrogen from a dispensing station where the hydrogen is cooled during dispensing, trapped hydrogen remains in the transfer lines. During the idle time between refueling vehicles, the temperature of the trapped hydrogen increases resulting in an increase in the pressure of the trapped hydrogen. Block and bleed valves operate to relieve the pressure in the transfer lines.

A method for lessening an initial pressure spike in a receiving tank caused by high pressure residual H-containing gas contained between a control valve and a block valve when dispensing the residual H-containing gas into the receiving tank.
