An adjustable sheath assembly sized to accept a medical instrument and adapted for insertion into a body of a patient for maintaining a passageway therein. The device includes a first hollow member having a first length, and a second hollow member having a second length, the first and second members being coaxially joined together through a length adjustment element. At least one of the first and second hollow members is sized to accept a medical instrument. The length adjustment element allows for the length of the sheath assembly to be fitted to bodies of various sizes by adjusting the length prior to insertion into the patients body. A properly adjusted length ensures that at least a portion of the sheath assembly remains outside of the patient's body.

Variable length nephrostomy sheath

A medical device for use within a body of a patient includes at least two retention members located at a first end of an elongated section of the medical device. The retention members are adapted to limit longitudinal movement of the elongated section when the medical device is placed within the body of a patient. The elongated section can define a passage and at least one opening in communication with the passage to facilitate passing fluid.

Retaining stent

A collapsible and expandable stent includes a body segment, first and second terminal ends spaced apart from each other, a substantially smooth wall and a lumen extending between the first and second ends. The device can be used for maintaining the patency of the prostatic urethra in a male patient. The stent may be designed according to the individual needs of particular patients. A delivery system for deploying the stent and other collapsible and expandable stents in the body of the patient comprises a retractable sheath, a shaft and a locking element to reversibly lock the sheath to the shaft.

Prostatic stent and delivery system

Medical devices, such as drainage stents, having coiled structures are useful in draining body fluids. A medical device has a first elongated section with a first cross-sectional area and a second elongated section with a second cross-sectional area. The second elongated section extends from the first elongated section. The second cross-sectional area is smaller than the first cross-sectional area. The second elongated section is or has at least one coiled structure with a plurality of turns, such as a helical coil tail.

A drainage catheter delivery system for positioning a drainage catheter or stent within a body cavity, such as a ureter. The delivery system includes a guide catheter, a push catheter, a drainage catheter (or stent) and a retention device. The guide catheter includes an outer diameter sized to slidably receive the push catheter and the drainage catheter. In this regard, the push catheter is placed over the guide catheter proximal the drainage catheter. The retention device selectively connects the push catheter to the drainage catheter. During use, the delivery system is pre-assembled as described above. The assembled delivery system is directed within a body cavity such that a distal end of the guide catheter is in close proximity to the desired drainage catheter position. The push catheter is axially slid along the guide catheter to move the drainage catheter away from a proximal end of the guide catheter. Conversely, the drainage catheter is retracted, or moved toward the proximal end of the guide catheter by retraction of the push catheter. Retraction of the push catheter retracts the drainage catheter via the retention device. Once properly positioned, the drainage catheter is released from the retention device by retracting the guide catheter from the drainage catheter.
