A method and apparatus used for actuation is provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises an actuation body having a gradually tapered wider end received at one end by an expandable member and at an opposing end by a drive shell. The actuation body being movable from a first position to a second position by means of the drive shell such that this movement causes a looser or tighter fit at the wider end with respect to the expandable member.

Method and apparatus for achieving rigid attachments for computer components

A data processing system and method providing a jumper which provides standby power from a redundant power supply to one of at least two critical functions in a frame having bays for holding at least two nodes. The redundant power supply supplying power to one of the nodes in the frame and one of the critical functions. A jumper is slidably engageable in the frame in place of one of the nodes. The jumper, when engaged in the frame, transfers power from the redundant power supply to the other of the critical functions. The jumper is included in a jumper book of an airblock which includes passive airblock books. Mechanical keys on the passive airblock books prevent the removal of the jumper book until after the passive airblock books are removed.

Fail safe redundant power supply in a multi-node computer system

An apparatus and method used for connecting surfaces to one another is provided. In one embodiment, the apparatus comprises of a mounting body with a front and a back portion. The front portion includes an opening that is aligned with another opening of a block, fixably attached to this front portion. The openings of the block and/or front section can include internal threading. A threaded insert is then placed inside the block such that the insert can move from a first position to a second position using threading movement.

A dual-blower assembly includes a single blower housing, the single blower housing defined by a base and opposite top, a pair of opposing side walls and a pair of opposing end walls intermediate the base and the top; a pair of inlet openings in the top; a front blower and a rear blower serially packaged in the single blower housing in a same plane, each blower aligned with a respective inlet opening of the pair of inlet openings; a rear blower exhaust opening for the rear blower disposed in one of the pair of end walls proximate the rear blower; and a front blower side exhaust opening for the front blower disposed in one of the pair of opposing side walls, the front blower side exhaust opening aligned with the front blower. Both the front and rear blowers are configured to force air in a direction from the front blower to the rear blower.

A modular fluid unit for cooling heat sources located on a rack, the modular fluid unit comprising: a heat exchanger in fluid communication a pump; and wherein the modular fluid unit is mountable within the rack and is configurable to be in fluid communication with a cold plate return manifold, a cold plate supply manifold, and an end-user fluid supply. A method for cooling electronic components in a rack, the method comprising: circulating a first liquid from a cold plate to one of a plurality of heat exchangers mounted within the rack; circulating a second liquid from a second liquid supply to the one of a plurality of heat exchangers; and transferring heat from the first liquid to the second liquid at the one of a plurality of heat exchangers.

The apparatus and method include a heat sink thermally coupled to the module, and a fastener configured to alter a clamping force therebetween as a result of the heat sink and the module formed of materials having a higher coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) than the fastener.

Compliant heat sink device/mounting system interconnect and a method of implementing same

An integrating sphere, and an integrating sphere-based reflectance colorimeter/spectrophotometer for the measurement of color and appearance, having multiple receivers capable of concurrently receiving optical radiation scattered/reflected from a diffusely illuminated sample surface, with the capability of multiple measurement modes (e.g., multiple specular component excluded (SCE), SCE and specular component included (SCI), multiple SCI), multiple areas-of-view for a given measurement mode, multiple viewing angles per measurement mode, and combinations thereof. An embodiment of the invention includes two SCI receivers and two SCE receivers, each disposed at an equal viewing angle relative to the sample surface. For each viewing mode, two sample areas-of-view are provided. The SCE receivers are opposite each other, such that the specular component of each SCE receiver is excluded by the port of the other SCE receiver. The receivers provide the collected light reflected from the sample to a detector which preferably is provided by multiple spectrometers or a single spectrometer having multichannel capability to preferably sense the light from each receiver in parallel.
