A method of forming a magnetic element. The method includes cooling a substrate to a cryogenic temperature. The method further includes depositing a magnetic layer with a grain refining dopant on the substrate. The magnetic layer with the grain refining dopant deposited on the substrate cooled to the cryogenic temperature has a magnetic moment that is greater than 2 Tesla and very soft magnetic properties.

A method of forming a recording head for use with a data storage medium in a data storage device. The method includes forming first and second writers of different target geometries. A first recording measurement is performed on one or more storage media using the first writer. A second recording measurement is performed on the one or more storage media using the second writer. Based on a comparison of the first and second recording measurements to a predetermined quantity, either the first writer or the second writer is selected to be operational in the data storage device.

A method of forming a magnetic recording head. The method includes depositing a sacrificial metal alloy layer, which is wet etchable and has a moderate mill resistance, over a substrate. The method also includes depositing a write pole layer over the sacrificial metal alloy layer. The write pole layer has a bottom surface and a top surface opposite the bottom surface. A portion of the bottom surface of the write pole layer is in contact with the sacrificial metal alloy layer.

A method includes depositing a layer of pole material on a substrate. The layer of pole material has a bottom surface that is adjacent to the substrate and a top surface that is opposite the bottom surface. A masking material is deposited over a portion of the top surface. Material from the pole material unprotected by the masking material is removed to form a write pole having first and second side walls. At least a portion of a trench formed by removal of the material from the layer of pole material is filled with a sacrificial material. The mask and a portion of the write pole at the top surface are removed to form a beveled trailing edge surface. The sacrificial material is then removed. Front shield gap material is deposited over the beveled trailing edge surface and over portions of the side walls.

Implementations disclosed herein provide an apparatus comprising a write pole, and a two-layer front shield formed on the write pole, the front shield comprising, a first dielectric material formed on the first layer of the front shield, an active shield control (ASC) device formed between the two layers of the front shield on the first dielectric material configured to synchronize the response to a magnetomotive force (MMF) of a write pole and the front shield, and a second dielectric material formed on the ASC device, wherein the second layer of the front shield is formed only on top of the second dielectric material and the first layer of the front shield.

Implementations disclosed herein provide a method of forming a first layer of a front shield in a magnetic recording head, depositing an active shield control (ASC) device on the first layer, and forming a second layer of the front shield on top of the ASC device and the first layer of the front shield. In another implementation, an apparatus includes a write pole, and a two layer front shield formed on the write pole, including an ASC device between the two layers of the front shield.

A data writer can be fabricated by constructing a write pole to continuously extend from an air bearing surface prior to depositing a first gap layer to continuously extend from the ABS in contact with a first write pole sidewall. A first side shield protrusion can then be formed on the air bearing surface to be separated from the write pole by the first gap layer. A second gap layer may be deposited to continuously extend from the first side shield protrusion along the first write pole sidewall to define a dielectric region on which a second side shield protrusion is formed with the second side shield protrusion separated from the write pole by the first and second gap layers and the first and second side shield protrusions each cantilevered from a common side shield body.

The present application relates to a write gap structure for a magnetic recording head. In illustrated embodiments, the write gap structure includes multiple write gap segments along a beveled pole tip surface between a top edge and a bottom edge of the beveled pole tip surface to provide a narrow write gap proximate to the air bearing surface and a larger write gap behind the air bearing surface. In illustrated embodiments, the narrow write gap segment is formed between the beveled pole tip surface and a lower back surface of front shield and the larger write gap is formed between the beveled pole tip surface and an upper back surface of the front shield.

A write pole may be formed by first depositing a dielectric layer onto a substrate and then patterning the dielectric layer to form a trench with a write pole shape. The trench is subsequently filled with the evaporation deposition of a magnetic material to form a write pole. The trench may have a greater depth dimension than width dimension.

A data writer can be configured with at least a write pole separated from a front shield by a non-magnetic gap layer. The front shield may consist of at least a seed layer and a shielding layer with the shielding layer having an easy axis coercivity along a first direction of 4 Oe or more and a hard axis coercivity along a second direction of 0.5 Oe or more.

An apparatus and associated method are generally described as a thin film exhibiting a tuned anisotropy and magnetic moment. Various embodiments may form a magnetic layer that is tuned to a predetermined anisotropy and magnetic moment through deposition of a material on a substrate cooled to a predetermined substrate temperature.

Because the new mark includes the features specified for each system it can be read by the detectors of both systems. Since each photolithography system is substantially insensitive to the presence of the aspect used by the other system precision alignment can be achieved by each system.

An arrangement and method for controlling individual zones of a hot plate which is employed in a post exposure bake step of wafers in the fabrication of semi-conductor devices incorporating photolithographic processes using chemically amplified resist systems. Provided is an in situ temperature-controllable hot plate which includes temperature-controllable surface zones for supporting a standard single wafer, and having loading means which orient the wafer on the hot plate. The hot plate may be segmented into an array of individually controllable heating zones, while mounted above the hot plate is a thermal detection array, such as an infrared(IR) camera or pyroelectric or pyrometric detector which functions to detect and scrutinize the wafer surface temperature with regard to specific locations dispersed across the hot plate surface. This particular data is mapped into the hot plate zones, and the mapped data transmitted into a servo for zonal hot plate adjustment and temperature control.
