Provided are highly water-resistant, flexible cementitious coating compositions comprising: an aqueous styrene-butadiene latex, one or more epoxy silane, cement, and one or more solid filler. The epoxy silane may comprise one or more epoxy functional groups and one or more hydrolysable functional groups selected from siloxy, silane, and, silanol or combinations thereof. Also provided are kits comprising the components of the cementitious coating compositions, methods for providing coatings, layers or membranes derived from such wet compositions, as well as the coatings, layers or membranes derived therefrom.

Highly water-resistant, flexible cementitious coating

The present invention provides compositions for use as elastomeric roof coatings having excellent infrared (IR) reflectivity which comprise (i) one or more elastomeric copolymer having a measured glass transition temperature (measured Tg) of from &#x2212;100 to 0&#xb0; C. and one or more mesoporous filler, preferably a mesoporous filler that is substantially free of organic groups or residues, the mesoporous filler chosen from mesoporous silica, mesoporous aluminosilicates and mesoporous alumina, wherein the composition has a pigment volume concentration (% PVC) of from 0.1 to 15%. Such compositions provide aqueous or solvent borne clearcoats that can go over existing, already painted or colorcoated roof or wall substrates to preserve their finish or appearance.

Infrared reflective clear coating compositions for elastomeric wall and roof coatings

The present invention provides shaped articles comprising one or more composite layer of (i) a vulcanizate encapsulated in a colored or uncolored thermoplastic polymer matrix containing one or more passivating agent, and (ii) a reflective material chosen from colored fluidizable particles of a thermoplastic reflective colorant encapsulated vulcanizate, roofing granules, thermoplastic encapsulated roofing granules, the colored thermoplastic polymer matrix, and combinations thereof. The articles can be laminates of colored or reflective layers on uncolored or other layers, or one or more colored layer having colored fluidizable particles are dispersed within the surface of the uppermost composite layer or having either the colored fluidizable particles or the granules are dispersed on the surface of the composite layer or are adhered thereto with a thermoplastic resin. Roofing shingles are provided.

Polymer rubber composite shingles with high solar reflectance

The present invention provides aqueous coating compositions comprising one or more emulsion copolymer made from itaconic acid, a sulfonic acid or sulfonate ester monomer and an additional acid monomer which is a carboxylic acid and having a glass transition temperature of from &#x2212;45&#xb0; C. to &#x2212;10&#xb0; C., and one or more pigment, opacifier, filler, extender, or mixture of any of these at a % PVC of from 20 to 55, preferably 30 to 50, wherein coatings made from the coating compositions provide improved resistance to water swelling and dirt pickup resistance. The improvements are observed regardless of whether the compositions contain or are substantially free of zinc or divalent metal ions, or salts or compounds containing them. The present invention also provides roofing substrates coated with the aqueous compositions.

Itaconic acid polymers for improved dirt and water resistance for elastomeric wall and roof coatings

The present invention provides elastomeric roof coatings and aqueous coating compositions of (i) an acrylic emulsion copolymer that comprises (ii) a reductant and has a high molecular weight, (iii) a combination of a hydrophilic polymeric dispersant and a pigment, extender or filler, and (iv) a multivalent transition metal ion or multivalent transition metal ion compound or salt. The composition and coating provide excellent swelling resistance and a balance of tensile and elongation in an acrylic roof coating composition.

Redox polymers for improved dirt and water resistance for elastomeric wall and roof coatings

The present invention provides elastomeric roof coatings made from emulsion copolymers having a glass transition temperature (Tg) of from &#x2212;25&#xb0; C. to 20&#xb0; C., a weight average molecular weight of from 50,000 to 150,000, a weight average particle size of from 100 to 500 nm, and copolymerized a monomer mixture of 20 wt. % or more, preferably 25 wt. % or more, of one or more hydrophobic monomer chosen from Cto Calkyl (meth)acrylates and 0.2 to 5 wt. % of one or more ethylenically unsaturated acid functional monomer and containing aminosilanes which give excellent wet adhesion to weathered substrates, especially weathered thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO).

Elastomeric roof coatings with adhesion to weathered thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) roofing membranes

The present invention provides methods of making shapeable composites in the form of finely divided materials or articles and the materials and articles produced by the methods, the methods comprising forming mixtures by (i) treating an aqueous thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer to increase the particle size thereof to a weight average particle size of 1 &#x3bc;m or more, and, optionally, dewatering to form a crumb mixture; and (ii) combining a thermoplastic acrylic or vinyl polymer with one or more waste rubber vulcanizate having a sieve particle size ranging from 10 to 600 &#x3bc;m in the amount of from 15 to 95 wt. %, based on the total weight of polymer and rubber to form a crumb slurry, such that (ii) can take place before, during, after (i) but before any dewatering, or after any dewatering; and (iii) thermoplastic processing the mixture. Thermoplastic processing can directly form articles, like sheets or films. The shapeable composites have excellent adhesion to other materials. In one embodiment, the sheets and films can be formed into laminates.

Methods for making composites having thermoplastic properties from recycled crosslinked polymer

The present invention provides methods of making composite materials comprising combining particles of crosslinked rubber with coagulated aqueous polymer dispersions to form a mixture in aqueous dispersion, and subjecting the aqueous dispersion mixture to solid state shear pulverization to form materials that can be processed as thermoplastics at crosslinked rubber concentrations of from 10 to as high as 95 wt. %, based on the total solids of the material. The method may further comprise kneading the pulverized product to form useful articles, such as roofing membranes and shoe soles.

Process for making polymer composites having thermoplastic properties

The present invention provides methods of making composite materials comprising combining particles of crosslinked rubber with one or more aqueous polymer dispersion of a suspension polymer to form a mixture in aqueous dispersion, and, optionally, subjecting the aqueous dispersion mixture to solid state shear pulverization to form materials that can be processed as thermoplastics at crosslinked rubber concentrations of from 10 to as high as 95 wt. %, based on the total solids of the material. The method may further comprise kneading and/or compression molding the pulverized product to form useful articles, such as roofing membranes and shoe soles.
