A short-circuit protected power supply circuit includes a switching power supply and a short-circuit sense/protection circuit. The switching power supply includes a synchronous rectifier, an output inductor, and an output capacitor. The synchronous rectifier is responsive to a synchronous rectifier control signal to selectively switch between an ON state and an OFF state. The output inductor and output capacitor are electrically connected in series with each other and are electrically connected in parallel with the synchronous rectifier. An output node is located between the output inductor and output capacitor. The short-circuit sense/protection circuit is coupled to the output node and is configured, upon a voltage magnitude at the output node being less than a predetermined voltage magnitude, to cause the synchronous rectifier control signal to switch the synchronous rectifier to, or keep it in, the OFF state. The short-circuit sense/protection circuit is a Schmitt trigger or an error amplifier/comparator circuit.

Short-circuit protected power supply circuit

A power supply includes a DC-DC converter, a boost converter, an energy storage element; and a voltage clamping circuit. The DC-DC converter is connected to a power source with an output voltage in a first voltage range. The voltage clamper circuit is configured to discharge at least a portion of energy of the energy storage element and to produce current at a clamped output voltage range that is substantially equal to the first voltage range. The discharged energy provides hold-up time for the power supply.

An overcurrent detection circuit and method for one or more capacitive loads includes sensing current being supplied to the one or more capacitive loads to thereby generate a sensed current, and sensing a voltage rate of change across the one or more capacitive loads to thereby generate a differentiator output. The differentiator output is added to a fixed reference setpoint to thereby generate an overcurrent setpoint. The sensed current is compared to the overcurrent setpoint, and an overcurrent trip signal is supplied when the sensed current is greater than or equal to the overcurrent setpoint.

Capacitvive load overcurrent detection system and method

Embodiments include systems and methods for assisting an operator (e.g., a pilot) of an apparatus (e.g., an aircraft) that includes a control compartment (e.g., a cockpit). The system includes a near-eye display and a processing subsystem. The near-eye display includes a transparent display panel and is adapted to be worn on a head of the operator. The processing subsystem is adapted to receive layout information defining a physical layout of one or more operational components located within the control compartment. The processing subsystem is further adapted to determine a location for a display indicator on the transparent display panel, where the location is determined to appear to the operator to be in proximity to an operational component. The processing subsystem is further adapted to generate a display signal to cause the near-eye display to display the display indicator in the location.

Operator assistance methods and systems

A suppression circuit may be added to a motor driver circuit, which suppresses offset voltage and ringing in the output signal. The suppression circuit may include an RC circuit filter connected to a pin of a microchip providing a gating reference signal and a junction between high and low side MOSFETS connected to the microchip.

A power supply may comprise a pulse-width-modulation (PWM) controller; a synchronous rectifier having a forward metal oxide field effect transistor (MOSFET) and a catch MOSFET; a forward gate driver; a catch gate driver; and the PWM controller connected so that a low output of the PWM controller facilitates operation of the catch MOSFET and so that the low output precludes operation of the forward MOSFET. The power supply may include a self powered synchronous rectifier that may be constructed with delay times that are independent of lot-to-lot and temperature-related timing variations of MOSFETS.

High voltage synchronous rectifier controller

A battery health or prognosis system may employ a ferrite disc embedded in a printed wiring board (PWB) to perform both a battery current sensing role and a temperature sensing role. The ferrite disc may be surrounded with a coil that may be comprised of surface conductors and electrically conductive vias of the PWB. Excursions of coil current may be produced to generate observable hysterisis loops in the ferrite disc. The generated hysterisis loops may be compared to a temperature-dependent family of hysterisis loops for the magnetic material from which the ferrite disc is constructed. A processor mounted on the PWB may collect and process outputs from a Hall-effect sensor to develop both temperature and battery current information to produce a prognosis for the battery.
