An exit aperture is set forth for placement between a prism and a projection lens capable of projecting light on a screen, comprising a frame with an opening for passing a cone of light and mounting points for securing the frame relative to the projection lens, wherein the opening has serrated edges for diffracting light incident thereon in multiple directions perpendicular to the serrated edges so as to be imperceptible when projected on the screen.

Serrated prism exit aperture for managing projection flare artifacts

There is provided an an apparatus for reducing coherence of a laser beam, which apparatus comprises a rectangular chamber having a first, second, and third walls each comprising a reflective inner surface, and a fourth wall comprising a beam splitter. The fourth wall is configured to transmit a portion of the laser beam into the chamber to form an input beam incident upon the first wall. The first wall is configured to reflect the input beam onto the second wall, which is configured to reflect the input beam onto the third wall, which is configured to reflect the input beam onto the fourth wall. The fourth wall is configured to reflect a portion of the input beam to form a further input beam incident upon the first wall and to transmit another portion of the input beam out of the chamber to form an output laser beam.

Apparatus for reducing coherence of a laser beam

There is provided an apparatus for wavelength conversion, comprising a wavelength converter, a first reflector, a second reflector, a third reflector, and a first lens. The first reflector has a curvature and is configured to reflect a plurality of input light beams onto the second reflector. The second reflector is configured to reflect the input light onto the third reflector. The first lens is disposed between the wavelength converter and the third reflector. The third reflector is configured to reflect the input light through the first lens and onto the wavelength converter, which is then excited to emit an emitted light. The first lens is configured to receive at least a portion of the emitted light, reduce its divergence, and at least partially transmit it to form an output light propagating towards the third reflector, which is configured to at least partially transmit the output light.

Apparatus for wavelength conversion

A forward-on-forward high dynamic range architecture for digital micromirror devices device is provided. In particular, provided herein is a device that includes two digital micromirror devices (DMDs), each operated in a forward configuration, such that each is illuminated at a respective non-normal angle and a respective output image is reflected at a normal angle, a subject plane of a first DMD being parallel to the first DMD. Optics between the DMDs are configured to convey light reflected from the first DMD to illuminate an image plane at a second DMD in the forward configuration, the optics including an equivalent lens plane. At least one optical device between the DMDs is configured to: tilt the subject plane of the first DMD to an equivalent tilted subject plane, the equivalent lens plane, the equivalent tilted subject plane and the image plane all intersecting at a Scheimpflug intersection.

Forward-on-forward high dynamic range architecture for digital micromirror devices

A dual light source enhanced integration system is provided. The system comprises: a first light source and a second light source with overlapping spectra; a light integrator configured to integrate light and having a first light entrance face and a second light entrance face; and, a beamsplitter system configured to about equally distribute light from each of the first light source and the second light source to each of the first light entrance face and the second light entrance face, such that the light from each of the first light source and the second light source is about equally combined at each of the first light entrance face and the second light entrance face.

Dual light source enhanced integration system

A system including a rotationally static light emitting material with rotating optics is provided. The system comprises: the material on a heatsink being circularly symmetrical around an axis, and rotationally fixed; a stationary light source configured to generate excitation light, the excitation light configured to excite the material producing emitted light, an incoming path of the excitation light forming a first angle, with the axis greater than 0&#xb0; and less than 90&#xb0;; and, optics, configured to rotate relative to the material around the axis, comprising: a first mirror on the axis and forming a second angle with the axis greater than 0&#xb0; and less than 90&#xb0;, the first mirror located on the incoming path; and a second mirror parallel to the first mirror, the first mirror configured to reflect the excitation light towards the second mirror, and the second mirror configured to reflect the excitation light towards the material.

Rotationally static light emitting material with rotating optics

A system including rotationally static light emitting material with rotating optics is provided. The system comprises: a heatsink; at least one light emitting material on the heatsink, at least a portion of the light emitting material being circularly symmetrical around an axis, the heatsink and the light emitting material being rotationally fixed; optics configured to rotate relative to the at light emitting material around a rotational axis that is coaxial with the axis of the light emitting material, the optics configured to: receive excitation light along the rotational axis; convey the excitation light to one or more locations on the light emitting material as the optics are rotating; collect light emitted from the one or more locations on the light emitting material excited by the excitation light; and, convey the light collected from the at least one light emitting material to the rotational axis for emission there along.

A light production system for a projector is provided. The light production system comprises: at least one high pressure mercury arc lamp; at least one red laser; at least one green laser; and an integrator for receiving and combining light from the at least one high pressure mercury arc lamp, red light from the at least one red laser and green light from the at least one green laser, the integrator comprising an output enabled to emit combined light into illumination relay optics of the projector.

Hybrid high pressure mercury arc lamp-laser light production system

A light integrator is provided, the light integrator comprising a body for integrating light, the body having a length and a light egress end. The light integrator further comprises a first light entrance device for accepting light from a first lamp into the body, the first light entrance device comprising a first light entrance face, the first light entrance device located distal the light egress end. The light integrator further comprises a second light entrance device for accepting light from a second lamp, the second light entrance device comprising a second light entrance face, the second light entrance device laterally displaced from the first light entrance device in a direction generally perpendicular to the first light entrance face, such that light from the first and second lamps independently enter the integrator via the first and second light entrance devices respectively, and exit the light egress end. The second light entrance device is further displaced from the first light entrance device along the body towards the light egress end, such that each of the first and second lamps may displaced from one another along the body.

Light integrator for more than one lamp

An optical device for effectively adjusting the F-number of an elliptical lamp is provided, the elliptical lamp for producing a focused light beam at a given focal point having a given cone angle. The optical device comprises a light interaction portion for optically interacting with the focused light beam when the light interaction portion is in general longitudinal alignment with a light emitting aperture of the elliptical lamp, the light interaction portion for triggering optical adjustment of a cone angle of at least a high cone angle portion of the focused light beam to a smaller cone angle. The optical device further comprises a light egress portion, coupled to the light interaction portion, for enabling exit of the focused light beam from the optical device with an effective cone angle smaller than the given cone angle, after the cone angle of the at least the high cone angle portion of the focused light beam has been adjusted to the smaller cone angle.

Optical device for adjusting the F-number of an elliptical lamp

A dual lamp coupling system is provided using a single equilateral 60 degree triangle prism in front of the integrator rod to homogenize the focused light from two lamps, with increased projection brightness. According to one embodiment, the equilateral 60 degree triangular prism is integrated into the end of the rod.
