A system for use during revascularization includes a catheter having an adjustable balloon for delivery a stent, one or more pacing electrodes for delivering one or more pacing pulses to a patient's heart, and a pacemaker configured to generate the one or more pacing pulses to be delivered to the heart via the one or more pacing electrodes. The one or more pacing pulses are delivered at a rate substantially higher than the patient's intrinsic heart rate without being synchronized to the patient's intrinsic cardiac contractions, and are delivered before, during, or after an ischemic event to prevent or reduce cardiac injury.

Method and apparatus for pacing during revascularization

A method of treating a cardiomyopathy in a subject includes administering directly to or expressing locally in a weakened, ischemic, and/or peri-infarct region of myocardial tissue of the subject an amount of SDF-1 effective to cause functional improvement in at least one of the following parameters: left ventricular volume, left ventricular area, left ventricular dimension, cardiac function, 6-minute walk test, or New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional classification.

SDF-1 delivery for treating ischemic tissue

A method and apparatus is described for preventing or reducing the ventricular remodeling that normally occurs after a myocardial infarction using pacing therapy. By pacing sites in proximity to the infarct with appropriately timed pacing pulses, the infarct region is pre-excited in a manner that lessens the mechanical stress to which it is subjected, thus reducing the stimulus for remodeling. If capture by the pacing pulses is not being achieved, the device may be configured to change the pacing pulse energy and/or pacing site as appropriate.

Devices and methods for therapy control based on electromechanical timing involve detecting electrical activation of a patient's heart, and detecting mechanical cardiac activity resulting from the electrical activation. A timing relationship is determined between the electrical activation and the mechanical activity. A therapy is controlled based on the timing relationship. Mechanical activity may be detected by sensing heart sounds, a change in one or more of left ventricular impedance, ventricular pressure, right ventricular pressure, left atrial pressure, right atrial pressure, systemic arterial pressure and pulmonary artery pressure.

Method and apparatus for controlling cardiac therapy based on electromechanical timing

A removable wheel device which slides onto the base of a sports field goal. The wheel device allows one person to move a goal across a field without using excessive force by sliding one wheel device onto the base of each goalpost and using leverage to tilt the goal and push or pull it for a distance. When inserted onto the base of the goal, the wheel device does not require any type of fastening to remain in place, but rather uses its own unique shape to hold onto the goal. Because field goals vary in structure, so too do each of the embodiments of the removable wheel device. Some of these variances include the angle of the axle, the location and structure of the notch, the use of a protrusion, and the use of a removable pin to secure the goalpost in place.

A device and method for delivering high-energy electrical stimulation to the heart in order to improve cardiac function in heart failure patients. The high-energy stimulation mimics the effects of exercise and improves symptoms even in patients who are exercise intolerant. The high-energy stimulation may be delivered on an intermittent basis either as pacing pulses in accordance with a programmed pacing mode and with a higher pacing pulse energy than used for conventional pacing or as low energy shock pulses.

Intermittent high-energy cardiac stimulation for therapeutic effect

A catheter with a tissue property sensor provides for localization of myocardial infarction (MI) by utilizing one or more differences between properties of infarcted myocardial tissue and properties of normal myocardial tissue. The tissue property sensor is to be placed on endocardial wall or epicardial wall during catheterization to sense at least one tissue property allowing for detection of MI. In one embodiment, the tissue property sensor includes a contractility sensor and senses a tissue property in various locations on endocardial wall or epicardial wall and detects substantial changes in the tissue property that indicate a boundary between infarcted tissue and normal tissue.

Method and apparatus for localizing myocardial infarction during catheterization

According to an embodiment of a method, a predetermined cardiac activity indicated for an antitachycardia shock is detected. Neural stimulation is applied to lower a defibrillation threshold in preparation for the shock, and the shock is subcutaneously delivered. A device and method for delivering electrical stimulation to the heart in order to improve cardiac function in heart failure patients. The stimulation is delivered as high-output pacing in which the stimulation is excitatory and also of sufficient energy to augment myocardial contractility. The device may be configured to deliver high-output pacing upon detection of cardiac decompensation.
