A regenerative thermal oxidizer assembly includes a first housing member and a second housing member. The first housing member defines a regenerative portion and a combustion chamber. The second housing member defines an inlet chamber and an outlet chamber. A regenerator is disposed within the regenerative portion of the first housing member and defines a central axial opening extending to the combustion chamber. A thermal element extends through the axial opening to the combustion chamber for providing heat to the combustion chamber for initiating combustion inside the combustion chamber. The first housing member is rotatable around an axis defined by the axial opening relative to the second housing member for rotating the regenerator relative to the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber.

Thermal regenerative fluid processing apparatus

A radiant convection oven for baking a coating on an article which includes an oven enclosure receiving coating articles, a fan receiving fresh air and directing the fresh air to a burner or burners, a plurality of heat radiators each having an internal chamber receiving heated fresh air from the burner. The radiators are located within the oven opposite a coating article, radiating heat energy to the coated article, and a plurality of nozzles connected to the internal chamber of the radiators directing fresh heated onto the article, transferring convection heat energy to the coated article. In the disclosed embodiment, the radiators include radiating side and bottom walls having a relatively shallow depth, increasing the flow rate through the radiators, reducing the size and cost of the radiators and the fan.

Radiant convection oven

An oven assembly for baking coatings applied to an object includes a housing with a header receiving pressurized air from a ventilator disposed outside the oven. A heater provides heat to the pressurized air received from the ventilator raising the temperature of the pressurized air to between about two and four times curing temperature in Fahrenheit degrees of the coatings applied to the object. The header extends from the heater into the housing. The header has nozzles disposed at spaced locations directing pressurized air at the temperature being between about two and four times the curing temperature in Fahrenheit degrees of the coating applied to the object toward predetermined locations on the object.

Convection combustion oven

A method of designing or evaluating the design of a bake oven for curing paint on an article to achieve the cure criteria for predetermined areas of the article, including creating a three-dimensional model of the article and the bake oven, dividing the three-dimensional model into discreet elements, using a computer to set each discreet element to initial conditions and at an initial time, repeating this step to achieve substantial convergence, comparing the cure criteria with the calculated temperature as a function of time and finally modifying the computational model of the bake oven to achieve the cure criteria based upon a computer simulation.

Method of designing or evaluating a bake oven

A pump for transferring particulate material from a source to a remote location, including a particulate chamber having open ends, check valves at the open ends, a vacuum source connected to the chamber adjacent one end, a gas source at the opposed end of the chamber and a control which alternatively connects the vacuum to the chamber to draw particulate material from the source to the chamber and connecting the gas under pressure to drive the particulate material to the remote location. In a preferred embodiment, the chamber has a cylindrical inner diameter and the source of vacuum is a venturi pump connected to a pinch valve permitting overflow of particulate material through the pinch valve and venturi pump, which is returned to the source. In one embodiment, the pinch valve surrounds an open end of the chamber permitting overflow while avoiding agglomeration of the particulate material.

An oven for heating a coating on a substrate, such as a painted vehicle body, including a first zone having radiant tubes and shields above the tubes and a second zone including side heat chambers having nozzles directing heated air onto a coated substrate and a hold zone. The radiant tubes may include a first linear portion extending through the oven and return loop beneath the substrate to conserve energy and sill ducts directing heated air against the underside of the vehicle body. The temperature is controlled by sensors contacting the radiant tubes and a proportional integral control system.

A scrubber assembly for removing particulate paint from a flow of air through a paint application booth is disclosed. A sheet of water received from a water source flows over flood pan collecting paint particles suspended in the flow of air. A separation chamber receives air and particulate paint from the booth and water from the flood pan through first and second scrubbers. The first and second scrubbers extend downwardly from the flood pan. Each scrubber includes an inlet receiving air and particulate paint from the paint application booth and water from said flood pan. The first scrubber includes a first outlet discharging a first stream of air, particulate paint, and water received from the first inlet. The second scrubber includes a second outlet discharging a second stream of air, particulate paint and water received from the second inlet. The first and second streams intersect within the separation chamber.

Scrubber for paint booths

A spray application system includes an enclosed spraybooth area in which airborne particles are generated and a scrubber system is located below the enclosed spraybooth area. The scrubber system includes an inlet receiving water and air from the spraybooth area along with airborne particles. The scrubber system transfers the airborne particles to the water for cleaning the air. A generally downwardly opening noise reflector is located directly over the inlet of the scrubber system and is configured to reflect sound generated by the scrubber system back into the inlet of the scrubber system. The reflector is spaced from the inlet of the scrubber system a distance equal to approximately the width of the inlet.

A baffle system for separating entrained liquid from a gas stream including columns of U-shaped baffles extending into a liquid trough and including flashing at the top of the baffles on opposed sides, wherein the wet side flashing is longer than the dry side flashing, and a trough baffle directing the air stream upwardly reducing re-entrainment of liquid. The flange portions of the columns of baffles are spaced to provide for cleaning.

Baffle system for separating liquid from a gas stream

A duct cleaning apparatus for cleaning an inside surface of a duct including an elongated flexible element extending inside the duct having a first end supported in the duct spaced from an inside surface, a second opposed free end and having a length sufficient to engage the inside surface of the duct, preferably greater than the diameter of the duct. Fluid flow through the duct, particularly turbulent flow, causes the elongated flexible element to oscillate or flap, striking the inside surface and removing foreign material from a predetermined portion of the inside surface of the duct. The apparatus of this invention may be used to create a fire break, for example, by removing flammable particles or dust from an area of the duct, preventing a flame from propagating along the duct through the flammable material.

Method of forming a fire break in a duct

An apparatus for treating gaseous pollutants in an air stream such as a regenerative thermal oxidizer or a selective catalytic reduction system, including a reaction chamber wherein the reaction media bed within the chamber comprises a plurality of nonprismatic ceramic blocks each having end faces, side faces and a chamfered face extending at an angle relative to the side faces of the blocks. The ceramic blocks are stacked in end-to-end and side-to-side relation within the reaction chamber and the ceramic blocks each include spaced parallel passages extending through the end and chamfered faces. The chamfered faces of adjacent blocks form voids between the blocks promoting turbulent gas flow through the voids and equalizing the pressure within the reaction chamber. The ceramic blocks may be symmetrical, wherein only a portion of the gas flows into the voids between the blocks and the remainder flows through the channels through the end faces or the ceramic blocks may be nonsymmetrical, wherein the chamfered faces are located vertically opposite an end face, such that all of the gas flowing through the reaction chamber flows through the gas passages into the voids between the blocks at alternative levels.

Apparatus for cleaning a duct

A rotary concentrator heats media in a desorption zone to a desorption temperature, then removes the pollutants using a second cold desorbent gas stream in a desorbent zone. First, the adsorbent media is rotated and an inlet gas stream is passed over the media in the adsorbent zone, thereby removing the adsorbable pollutants. A first gas stream having a temperature equal to or greater than the desorption temperature of the adsorbable pollutants is passed over the media in the desorbent zone to heat the media to generally the desorption temperature of the adsorbable pollutants. A second gas having a temperature less than the desorption temperature of the adsorbent media is passed over the media in the desorbent zone to remove the adsorbable pollutants from the desorbent zone. Subsequently, the gas containing the adsorbable pollutants received from the desorbent zone is processed by destroying or removing the adsorbable pollutants.

Rotary concentrator and method of processing adsorbable pollutants

A method of cooling a regenerative thermal oxidizer down rapidly includes the steps of increasing the cycle time of the heat exchangers once a decision has been made to shut the regenerative thermal oxidizer down. By increasing the cycle time, the regenerative thermal oxidizer rejects more heat from the system. That is, the efficiency of the system goes down, and more heat is lost. In this way, the system approaches an ambient temperature much more quickly then in known systems. In one method of performing this invention, the cycle time is increased as much as possible, and as rapidly as possible while monitoring the outlet temperature on the outlet gas. The cycles are reversed only when the outlet temperature approaches a maximum safe operating temperature. In a second method, the cycle times are increased in pre-programmed steps. By utilizing the present invention, one is able to cool a regenerative thermal oxidizer to ambient temperatures in less than half the time of the prior art systems.
