A mixing process apparatus for discharging polymer material into a mold comprising a resin passage having an inlet for receiving polymer material and an outlet for discharge polymer material for molding, a first and second chamber communicates with said passage with each of said first and second chambers having a variable volume, said variable volume varying from a fill position for holding a predetermined volume of said polymer material to a discharge position for emptying polymer material, said first and second chamber being adapted for movement to transport said polymer material from a first mix position where one chamber is in a fill position and the other chamber is in an emptying position to a second mix position wherein said one chamber moves to an emptying position and said other chamber moves to a fill position, said first and second chamber being adapted for discharging said polymer material for molding when each of said chambers is in an emptying position.

Mixing apparatus for mixing thermosetting and thermoplastic resin blends

A system for providing process control information, such as viscosity, concerning a polymer melt comprises a means containing a polymer melt under pressure; means for diverting a stream of the polymer melt directly from said containing means to and through an orifice of predetermined geometrical shape wherein the flow of said diverted portion to and through said orifice is unobstructed and directly dependent on the pressure of said main polymer melt wherein the cross sectional area is sized to permit the flow of said diverted melt polymer therethrough absence additional independent means acting on said diverted melt polymer for increasing flow through said orifice; temperature sensing means for measuring the temperature of the diverted melt stream and producing a resultant temperature signal; pressure sensing means for measuring the pressure of the diverted melt stream and producing a resultant pressure signal, said pressure signal being directly dependent on the pressure of polymer in said main polymer melt and the predetermined size of said orifice; means weighing at least a portion of said diverted melt stream discharged through said orifice, said weighing means including weight sensing means for measuring the weight of diverted melt stream and producing a resultant weight signal; and computer means responsive to the temperature, pressure and weight signals for determining process characteristics of the main polymer melt.

A method for making an impact modified thermoplastic resin composition includes combining an glycidyl ester impact modifier with a polycarbonate resin to form a glycidyl ester impact modifier-polycarbonate resin blend and then combining the glycidyl ester impact modifier-polycarbonate resin blend with a polyester resin to provide the impact modified thermoplastic resin composition. Articles molded from the impact modified thermoplastic resin composition made according to the method exhibit high impact resistance and improved surface appearance.
