Methods and devices automatically determine a base color gamut of base marking materials and extension color gamuts of extension marking materials. As each print job is received, these methods and devices automatically evaluate the print job to determine the print job color gamut. Then, the methods and devices can automatically determine the closest match between: the print job color gamut; and the base color gamut or one of the extension color gamuts to identify a matching color gamut. Further, these methods and devices automatically output the matching color gamut (and potentially a corresponding interchangeable supply container, if the matching color gamut is one of the extension color gamuts) by, for example, displaying the matching color gamut and the corresponding interchangeable supply container in at least one additional column in a print queue, or displaying the matching color gamut and the corresponding interchangeable supply container in a separate gamut queue.

Methods and systems for maintaining image quality are disclosed. A printing system and method is provided for maintaining image quality, comprising: initially establishing a plurality of image quality threshold standards; assigning an image quality threshold standard from the plurality of image quality threshold standards to an associated image job; comparing the assigned image quality threshold standard of each associated image job to a system check value; and, marking any image jobs having an assigned image quality threshold standard greater than the quality system check value.

A system and method for configuring a customized sample job for monitoring print quality and increasing proofing flexibility. A sample job comprising one or more pages can be created in association with print programming attributes utilizing a document creation application. The sample job can be raster image processed with respect to a user specified job setting and stored in an electronic memory component (e.g., DFE component, computer memory, Flash memory, USB memory, etc) as a custom sample job. The custom sample job can then be selected with respect to a primary rendering job in order to render a sample page based on a predefined frequency interval (e.g., after every N sheets) to a sample tray. The frequency interval associated with the custom sample job production can be predefined on a job-by-job and/or global basis by a user.

A color rendering system and method is disclosed. The color rendering system comprising a color rendering strip generation system configured to generate a group of one or more sets of comparison patches. Each set of comparison patches associated with a particular color and including different color space representations of the color associated with the set.
