An air deflector for the rear wheels of vehicles such as trucks and trailers is disclosed. The deflector consists of a fairing suspended beneath the truck or trailer body immediately in front of the rear wheels and extending completely across the width of the body. The surface of the fairing is curved in both a lateral and a vertical direction to deflect impinging air and entrained water or snow around or under the wheels. In a preferred form, the device is formed with a plurality of generally vertical grooves angled toward the center line of the vehicle. The grooves direct impinging air downwardly and between the rear wheels. The air deflector serves to suppress splashing and spraying of water from the roadway and of rain or snow, and reduces aerodynamic drag to improve handling and reduce fuel consumption.

An apparatus for reducing the aerodynamic drag of a refrigerated cargo carrying vehicle of the type having a front wall and a refrigeration unit on the front wall. The apparatus comprises a wind deflector configured to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the vehicle. The wind deflector has a forward wall with an opening which confronts a condenser of the refrigeration unit. A door is mounted on the forward wall for movement to open and close the opening.

An apparatus for reducing the aerodynamic drag of a refrigerated trailer of the type having a front wall and a refrigeration unit on the front wall. The apparatus comprises a wind deflector configured to reduce the aerodynamic drag of the refrigerated trailer. The wind deflector is attached to the refrigeration unit for movement between a drag-reducing position and an access position in which the wind deflector is displaced from the drag-reducing position to provide improved access to the refrigeration unit.

A self-contained, self-propelled air-conditioning system is provided for supplying air to structures, such as aircraft on the ground at airports. The aircraft are of the type having an inlet duct for conveying the air through the structure. The system includes a suitable truck having a frame or chassis mounted on wheels. The system also includes a diesel engine separate from the engine of the truck mounted on the chassis for supplying mechanical energy and an electrical generator mechanically connected to the diesel engine for changing the mechanical energy into electrical energy. A ventilation system is mounted on the frame and is electrically connected to the generator for moving air from the ambience to the inlet duct. A pair of independent refrigeration systems, each including a compressor, are mounted on the frame. The compressors are electrically connected to the generator. Each refrigeration system cools the moving air independently from the other refrigeration system. The air-conditioning system further includes an electrical control system including a plug adapted for connection with an external power supply. The plug allows the air-conditioning system to be electrically connected to the external power supply.

Air deflector for refrigerated vehicles

An illuminated enclosure mounted on the vertical front wall of a vehicle to reduce aerodynamic drag of the vehicle and to display a trademark, name, logo or the like. The major portion of the enclosure is first painted black so as to be substantially impervious to the passage of light. An illuminated area is convered by translucent paint or a decalcomania arranged to display the trademark, name or logo to be displayed. A lighting device is mounted on the front wall of the vehicle and connected to its electrical system. The lighting device has a plurality of spaced light bulbs arranged transversely across the midportion of the illuminated area. In use, the illuminated area is lighted from within the enclosure for observation by others as the vehicle moves along the highway.
