The present disclosure includes devices and method for measuring tension in a test object. An example device includes a probe configured to exert a force upon a test object at a particular location, a sensor that detects the force that the probe exerts upon the test object, and a switch that signals the sensor indicating the test object has been displaced a particular distance and/or angle, such that the sensor measures the force at a time when the test object has been displaced the particular distance and/or angle.

Hermetically sealed assemblies, for example, that include IC chips, are configured for incorporation within a connector terminal of an implantable medical electrical lead, preferably within a contact member of the terminal. An assembly may include two feedthrough subassemblies, welded to either end of the contact member, to form an hermetic capsule, in which an IC chip is enclosed, and a tubular member, which allows a lumen to extend therethrough, along a length of the terminal. A multi-electrode lead may include multiplexer circuitry, preferably a switch matrix element and a communications, control and power supply element that are electrically coupled to the contact member and to another contact member of the terminal. Each pair of switch matrix switches allows for any two of the electrodes to be selected, in order to deliver a stimulation vector, via stimulation pulses from a device/pulse generator, to which the connector terminal is connected.

In one embodiment, a microreplication tool includes gas release features that allow gas to escape from microreplication cavities of the tool. The gas release features can be disposed at the bottoms of the respective cavities to avoid air entrapment within the cavities of the tool during the microreplication process. In this manner, the quality of the microreplicated product can be improved.

An ultrasonic transducer that operates in flexure mode provides a highly efficient and compact sonophoresis device. Such a device is particularly useful for efficiently enhancing permeation of a substance through a membrane, such as dermal and mucosal membranes for purposes of transdermal/transmucosal drug delivery and/or body fluid monitoring.

Sonophoresis method and apparatus

An article includes a mating surface fastener portion attached to a surface. The mating surface fastener portion has a land and a plurality of tapered elements and is capable of reattachably and matingly intermeshing with a fastener portion of another article to fasten the respective articles. The fastener portions have a predetermined disengagement pressure for a given engagement pressure. The surface to which the land is attached is at least semi-rigid. The means for attaching has a compliance that is no greater than 0.381 cm. Also, the fastener portions can have a predetermined disengagement pressure for a given engagement pressure; for an engagement pressure of no more than 689,500 N/m,the fastener portion has a disengagement pressure of at least 137,900 N/M,.

Intermeshable articles

An acoustic horn imparts energy at a selected wavelength, frequency, and amplitude. The horn has at least one nodal plane and a natural frequency of vibration. The horn has an outer surface and at least one cutout located in the outer surface. The cutout is located at a longitudinal location on the surface that does not contact the nodal plane. The horn length is a function of the shape, size, number, and location of the cutouts, and is less than the length of a solid horn having the same natural frequency of vibration. The horn can vibrate at a natural frequency and the length of the horn can be less than one-half wavelength of vibration.
