Apparatus and method for discouraging computer theft. The apparatus and method requires that a password or other unique information be supplied to the computer before the computer BIOS routines can be completely executed. A BIOS memory storing the BIOS routines includes a security routine which will determine whether or not the required password entered by the user, or a known quantity read from an externally connected memory device is present. The security function stored within the BIOS memory also includes an administration function which permits the computer to be either placed in a locked state, thereby requiring password or the known quantity read from an externally connected memory device to be present each time the computer is booted up. The administration function also permits an unlock state which permits the computer boot up process to complete without entering any password or externally supplied quantity. The external memory location is consulted during each boot up sequence, to determine whether the computer has been placed in the locked or in the unlocked state. If the security depends upon the supply of the known quantity from an externally connected memory device, the computer will be inoperable to anyone not in possession of the external memory device. In the event that the external memory location bearing the locked or unlocked code is removed, the security function assumes the computer to be in the locked state, thus frustrating avoidance of the locked state by tampering with the external memory.

Apparatus and method for preventing theft of computer devices

A holographic display system is disclosed. Utilization of holographic elements provides good transmissivity with respect to both outside stimulus and the superimposed display information. Full color display is enabled by a composite spherical lens and the efficient optical coupling of the display information and the pupil allows the weight of the helmet with the display system to be kept to a minimum.

A weapon simulator for detecting the azimuth and elevation of which the weapon is oriented, comprising a sign mounted onto the weapon into which a playback sequence of a target path, is displayed through.

Hybridized target acquisition trainer

This system is designed for video displays that are used for television presentation or film projection, so as to reduce eyestrain, glare from light reflections, and will increase contrast and apparent brightness, making the presentations more readable, and will reduce all potentially harmful radiation effects from the cathode ray tube, which may be cumulative. Primarily, the system consists of an elevated cathode ray tube in the display housing, which produces its image on an inner frontal plane mirror where the image is projected onto and inner spherical morror that reflects the image through a housing cover glass to be seen by the user.

Display system

A target designation system for use in training an observer to acquire and recognize targets is disclosed. A scenario with targets is displayed in front of the observer who aligns his line of sight so that a reticle is superimposed on the acquired target. The display system consists of film illuminated by a cathode ray tube. Film is used to provide color, resolution and realism not available from cathode ray tubes or any other display system. Light rays from the display are partially transmitted through a beam-splitter to the observer and partially reflected through an optical window onto a photodetector. In addition, the projected image of the reticle is reflected by the beam-splitter toward the observer. The photodetector and optical window are positioned so that light rays from the scanning spot of the CRT raster impinge on the photodetector only when the scanning spot occupies a point on the CRT screen corresponding to the location on the film at which the image of the reticle is superimposed. When the observer closes a switch, the photodetector outputs on electrical pulse to the deflection yoke circuitry in response to receipt of light rays from the scanning spot. The deflection yoke circuitry in turn outputs electrical signals corresponding to the position coordinates of the acquired target to a computer. The position coordinates and designation of every target are stored in the computer memory. Upon locating the position coordinates of the acquired target in the memory, the computer outputs the acquired target's designation to a display.
