A screen or filter assembly is described as well as improved methods of affixing such assemblies to a portion of an oil or gas production assembly. A nonrigid attachment for reversibly securing a tubular screen to a portion of a production string is disclosed which significantly reduces the risk of the connection between the screen and the production nipple from being broken. In a preferred embodiment, an end cap is described having a projecting lip which secures one end of the screen body to a perforated sub. A removable threaded retaining sleeve is used to secure the other end of the screen body to the perforated sub. A compression ring is associated with the threaded connector to assist in securing the screen body end. A pair of deformable rings are placed adjacent each of the screen body ends to absorb service loads. The screen assembly may be subjected to operational tensile and compressive stresses and thermal expansions and contractions without significant risk of connection failure.

Screen assemblies and methods of securing screens

A remotely-adjustable valve employable in an enhanced-lift recovery system and a method of adjusting the same. The valve comprises: (1) an elongated valve body having a process fluid inlet and a process fluid outlet, (2) an elongated valve stem disposed within the valve body for axial displacement relative thereto to adjust a rate of process fluid flow between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet as a function of a relative axial position of the valve stem with respect to the valve body and (3) a cam disposed within the valve body and coupling the valve body and the valve stem, the cam providing a plurality of axial displacement positions thereon to place the valve stem at a selected one of a plurality of relative axial positions with respect to the valve body, the valve body having a control fluid pressure port for allowing a control fluid pressure to be introduced into and released from the valve to reciprocate the valve stem axially with respect to the valve body between cocked and set positions, the cam moving from a first axial displacement position to a second axial displacement position as the valve stem is reciprocated, a difference between the first and second axial displacement positions thereby causing an adjustment of the rate of process fluid flow between the fluid inlet and the fluid outlet.

Remotely actuated adjustable choke valve and method for using same

An isolation valve for a downhole well completion system having a one piece frangible, ceramic sealing element and an extrusion resistant resiliently faced valve seat and a method for the use thereof is presented. Said sealing element is biased to the closed position and rotatable within a sealing element chamber from an open position during run in to a closed position as a result of the withdrawal of a wash pipe and a protector tube from the valve bore. Said frangible sealing element cooperates with said extrusion resistant valve seat to provide a reliable pressure resistant seal. After recovery of completion fluids from the well bore and pressure testing of the production string, the frangible sealing element is shattered by impacting with a tooth-faced blind box hammer.

Pumpdown toolstring for performing operations requiring application of power downhole in horizontal or high-deviation oil or gas wells, comprising an elongate toolstring element (30), locomotive devices (31, 32A) on said toolstring element, with at least one locomotive device (32) provided at a trailing or top end of the toolstring element (30). The toolstring element (30) is tubular and has a closed leading or bottom end, whereas it is open at the opposite, top end. The leading locomotive device, (31) adapted to pull the toolstring element during pumping down, has a seal for co-operation with a seat at a no-go or nipple assembly at the bottom end of a tubing from which an extension tubing extend into the horizontal or high-deviation well. The leading locomotive device (31) sealingly surrounds the toolstring element (30) and allows sliding of the toolstring element there-through when engaging the seat. The toolstring element (30) has a safety bypass valve (80) near the at least one locomotive device (32A) at the top end of the toolstring element and check valve (70) between the bypass valve (80) and the at least one locomotive device (32A).

A burner nozzle for burning petroleum products. The burner nozzle includes a tube portion with a burner nozzle insert disposed therein. A nut is threadingly engaged with the tube portion to hold the insert in place. The insert has a substantially conical nozzle portion with an inlet portion extending substantially perpendicular to a longitudinal axis of the nozzle portion. The inlet portion defines a plurality of inlet ports therethrough. The inlet ports are angled with respect to the longitudinal axis and have an outlet end adjacent to an inner surface of the nozzle portion.

Burner nozzle

A system and method for servicing subsea wells with a flexible riser. The flexible riser can be modified for use either with wireline or through the flow line tools. The flexible riser eliminates the requirement for motion or heave compensating equipment associated with rigid marine riser systems. The flexible riser, lower riser package and associated surface support equipment can be used to obtain vertical access to a subsea well without the need to use a drill ship or semisubmersible.

Method and system for maintenance and servicing of subsea wells

A tool stopping device for use in well flow conductors for stopping well tools moving therethrough, these devices being located at desired checkpoints, their arrival thereat indicating the progress of the tools in the flow conductor, each device having lugs movable between an inner, tool stopping position and an outer position in which they do not obstruct the bore of the device, each device also having a mechanism remotely actuable from the surface for moving the lugs between their outer and inner positions, whereby tools may be stopped by the lugs when in their inner position, after which the lugs may be moved to their outer position to free the tools for movement beyond the device. In some forms of the devices, the lugs may stop tools in position where they are to be locked in place. In another form, the tools are stopped by a shoulder in the device and the lugs are then contracted to anchor the tool in engagement with that shoulder. In further forms, the device has a lug which may block the slot in an orienting sleeve incorporated therein for stopping a perforating gun, kickover tool, or the like, after being oriented, the lug being remotely retractable to a position wherein it does not block the slot, thus freeing the tool for unhindered movement therebeyond. Systems and methods relating to such devices are also disclosed.

Well tool stopping devices, systems and methods

A tool stopping device for use in a well flow conductor having a preferably full open bore and an abrupt stop shoulder surrounding the bore and engageable by corresponding stop shoulders of spring biased keys carried on a well tool for stopping the well tool as it moves through the flow conductor to indicate the tool's arrival at the device, the device having lugs remotely actuable from the surface for releasing the keys from engagement with the stop shoulder in the device for movement of the well tool therebeyond. One form of the device is suitable for stopping tools entering from one direction only. Another form of the device is suitable for stopping tools both moving into and out of a well. Either or both types of devices may be used in any quantity to provide known checkpoints in a well system for monitoring the progress of well tools moving therethrough.

Releasable well tool stopping devices and systems

A well safety system comprising a tubing retrievable safety valve adaptable for being connected in a well tubing string with means therein, responsive to pressure, for opening and closing the valve. The tubing retrievable safety valve is to be connected, in the tubing string, below a landing nipple for receiving a secondary safety valve. The safety valve and landing nipple are connected by a common conduit for conducting a suitable pressure fluid for control and balance of the safety valve and a secondary valve landed in the landing nipple. Means are provided on the landing nipple for selectively flushing pressure fluid into the tubing bore. This abstract of the disclosure is neither intended to define the scope of the invention which, of course, is measured by the claims nor is it intended to limit the invention in any way.

Well safety valve system

A submergible, underwater well completion habitat and a method of employing the same in the completion of wells at extended depths. The well completion habitat may be attached to an underwater well platform and maintained at a pressure of sufficient value to expel water from the work chamber and also to maintain it substantially water free so that one or more saturated divers may work within the chamber to complete the well. This abstract of the invention is neither intended to define the scope of the invention, which, of course, is measured by the claims, nor is it intended to limit the invention in any way.

Underwater completion habitat

A piston for use as a TFL locomotive or well swab having a seal unit forming a fluid seal between the piston and the inner wall of a flow conductor or tubing string. The seal unit comprising at least one annular fin or lip extending radially from the piston. The annular fin or lip having an exterior portion formed from elastomeric material which is deformable to seal with the flow conductor and an interior portion formed from elastomeric material molded on wire mesh. The interior portion providing increased wear resistance and strength for the annular lip. In one version, the piston carries several individual seal units each having an annular lip.

Reinforced seal unit for pumpdown pistons or well swabs

A well running tool used for lowering and setting well bomb hangers and various tool string hangers in a well and then disengagement for removal from the well, leaving the hanger set in place in the well. It is a soft set running tool designed to disengage from a bomb hanger, or other well tool hanger, with an upward pulling force substantially greater than the weight of the bomb hanger or other tool hanger, being positioned in the well after the hanger is key lock set in place down the well.
