A children's playground or recreational apparatus is provided in which the bottom half of a large world globe is encased in a stationary socket, there being between the surface of said globe and said socket a means for supporting said globe and for producing frictional drag against the globe's surface in order to restrict the globe's potential rotational speed to a manageable limit. A child achieves an erect and balanced stance atop the globe, and by an asymmetrical shift in foot position and/or weight causes the globe to rotate in a desired direction at a desired speed, thus enabling the child to 'walk around the world'. The globe is provided with a slip-resistant surface, and padding or other protection is provided around the base of the apparatus to attenuate the effects of a fall. The apparatus can be entertaining and recreational, it can develop enhanced balance, coordination and agility, and it can provide a fun means for learning about world geography.

Children's apparatus for recreation and for learning world geography

A head, neck and shoulder therapeutic exercise device which mechanically assists the human head and neck with intermittent rearward/forward movement in order to help correct or attenuate by means of muscular conditioning the cervical misalignment associated with forward head and flexible cervical lordosis. Mounted on a chair, an adjustable frame supports above the patient's head a motor assembly in fixed position and a motion-assist assembly which is horizontally moveable. The latter comprises in part a roller block with affixed roller bearing plate extending down behind the patient's head. The motor shaft, also behind the patient's head, has a cam which rides against a roller bearing in the roller bearing plate. As the cam's high side rotates against the bearing, the bearing plate moves away from the patient, thereby transferring rearward tension to the head by means of stretchable straps attached to said bearing plate and placed around the patient's forehead and chin. Each rotation of the cam is briefly halted by a timer when the head is in retracted position. After a holding phase, the rotation resumes, returning everything to original position. The head displacement distance is controlled by variously sized interchangeable cams. During therapy, the patient tries to do chin tuck exercises to accompany the cyclic mechanical movement.

Head, neck and shoulder therapeutic exercise device

An apparatus for collecting flat or semiflat materials while simultaneously retrieving bottles and cans includes a ground engageable rotating drum (50) with a plurality of fingers (80) extending radially from the drum. A spring finger assembly (100) cooperates with the drum (50) to retrieve articles from the ground. The spring finger assembly includes an upper and lower unit (104, 102) each including a plurality of spring fingers (128) mounted on a rotary shaft assembly (116, 118, 122) driven in conjunction with the rotation of the drum. The rotary shaft assembly and the spring fingers attached thereto rotate with respect to fixed stripper plates (140). A camming device (122, 130, 132) acts to rotate and extend the fingers beyond the stripper plates when the fingers move adjacent to the drum fingers and to rotate and withdraw the spring fingers behind the stripper plates upon further rotation such that the material engaged by the spring fingers is stripped therefrom.

Apparatus for retrieving objects from the ground

A method and apparatus for collecting flat or semiflat materials while simultaneously retrieving bottles and cans includes a ground engageable rotating drum (52) with a plurality of fingers (60) extending radially from the drum. A plurality of toothed discs (210) is rotatably mounted on a shaft and driven in conjunction with the rotation of the drum in a direction opposite that of the drum. The toothed discs (210) are positioned adjacent to but above ground level during operation of the apparatus and assists in the engagement and movement of objects by the drum and fingers to a collection location (32). A plurality of belts (130) is engaged between pulleys (212) mounted intermediate of the toothed discs (210) and corresponding pulleys (126) on a shaft spaced from the toothed discs. The belts are positioned on the trailing side of the drum and above the toothed discs and assist in engagement and movement of objects by the drum and fingers to the collection station. Stripper bars (180) assist in dislodging objects from between the fingers of the drum. A second assembly of a plurality of toothed discs (220) is mounted on a shaft and driven in conjunction with the rotation of the drum in the same direction of the drum. This second disc assembly is positioned near the top side of the drum and adjacent the structure for dislodging objects from the drum fingers. Rotation of this second disc assembly assists in directing objects carried to the top side of the drum to the collection station.
