A medical connector for use in a fluid pathway includes a housing configured to permit fluid flow between a first medical device and a second device or location. The medical connector includes a valve member configured to be positioned at least partially within the housing. The valve member is configured to receive the first medical device. The valve member can be moved into a second state. The connector can be adapted for use with a catheter assembly.

An opacifying cluster which may be added to a coating composition to provide a coating composition with low gloss and a high level of opacity. The opacifying cluster can include a polymeric latex binder coalescing cluster components into a generally homogeneous particle. The cluster components may include discrete polymeric particles each defining a closed void volume therein, a plurality of inorganic pigment particles, and a plurality of extender pigment particles. The clusters may also include a porosity of the polymeric latex binder thereof defining a binder void volume. Also provided is a paint product including such a pigment cluster.

An insertion device for inserting an infusion device at least partially into skin for subcutaneous infusion can comprise a sleeve having a lower surface that is configured to engage the skin, a shuttle or carriage to carry the infusion device between a retracted position and an advanced position; at least a first biasing member to urge the shuttle or carriage toward the advanced position, and an actuator to cause the first biasing member to urge the carriage from the retracted position to the advanced position. In some embodiments, the insertion device can further comprise a hub and at least a second biasing member to urge the hub away from the shuttle or carriage. In some embodiments, the insertion device can further comprise a needle attached to the hub. Methods for inserting an infusion device and various other features that can be comprised by an insertion device are also disclosed.

The smoke suppressant comprises a molybdate precipitate on the surface of a borate core. The precipitate increases surface area of the core and provides improved smoke suppression relative to a mixture of the molybdate and borate core. The suppressants can be incorporated into polymer compositions to improve their smoke suppression capability.

The present invention is directed to smoke suppressants based on ammonium octamolybdate chemistry. According to this invention, the precipitation of ammonium octamolybdate in the presence of an inert mineral core produce a novel high surface area ammonium octamolybdate smoke suppressant. The high surface area significantly increases the smoke suppression performance over a standard ammonium octamolybdate. This invention is also directed to a process for making the high surface area ammonium octamolybdate smoke suppressant. The smoke suppressant of this invention is particularly suitable for smoke suppression in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) applications.
