Cutting tool assemblies and retention sleeves. The assemblies may include a support member that has a sleeve-receiving hole therethrough and a cutting tool that has an elongated shank. Various configurations of sleeve segments are disclosed for non-rotatably supporting the elongated shank of the cutting bit in the support member. Such sleeve segment embodiments may be provided with a plurality of axially extending notches to establish segments of various degrees of interference fit between the sleeve and the support member when seated in the sleeve-receiving hole of the support member.

Cutting tool retention apparatuses

A retainer system for a cutting tool that has an elongated shank. In one embodiment, the retainer system includes a tool holder block that has a sleeve-receiving hole therethrough for receiving a sleeve therein. The sleeve may have a shank-receiving hole and at least one undercut portion therein. The retainer may define a shank-receiving opening and have retainer portions that correspond to each of the undercut portions in the sleeve for selective retaining engagement therewith. The first and second retainer portions retainingly engage a portion of the elongated shank of the cutting tool when inserted into the shank-receiving opening therebetween.

Tool retainer

Cutting tool assemblies and wear and retention sleeves. The assemblies may include a support block that has a sleeve-receiving hole therethrough and a cutting tool that has an elongated shank. Various configurations of sleeves are disclosed for supporting the elongated shank of the cutting bit in the support block. Such sleeve embodiments may be provided with a plurality of axially extending overlapping notches to establish segments of various degrees of interference fit between the sleeve and the support block when seated in the sleeve-receiving hole of the support block. Some sleeve embodiments are configured to permit the shank of a cutting bit to freely rotate therein. Other sleeve embodiments are configured to prevent rotation of the cutting bit shank when inserted therein.

Cutting tool wear sleeves and retention apparatuses

A cutting tool assembly having a holder block mounting scheme which effectively and accurately positions the cutting tip point at its designed angle of attack. The connection assembly limits undesirable shifting during attachment of the holder block to a cutting drum. The holder block connection assembly of the present invention includes a separate mounting plate that is positioned between the bit holder block and drum/pedestal for accurately aligning the bit holder block onto to the drum/pedestal. Once the bit holder block is aligned into position by the plate as designed the bit holder block is welded to the drum/pedestal.
