System, method and program determining a network path by which a workstation can send a message to a target network. The workstation accesses a first part of the network path via a network access server. A plurality of other servers by which the workstation can access a second part of the network path leading to the target network are identified. Respective response times to communicate between the workstation or the network access server and each of the other servers are measured. A determination is made which one of the other servers has a shortest response time. The workstation attempts to connect to the one server, before attempting to connect to other of the other servers, to access the second part of the network. The second part of the network can be a virtual private network, and the other servers are entry point servers for respective virtual private networks.

System, method and program for determining a network path by which to send a message

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for autonomic management of data operations and performance resources on a grid computing system. An autonomic management apparatus includes a monitor module, a policy module, and a regulation module. The monitor module is configured to monitor the grid computing system for a trigger event. The policy module is configured to access one of a plurality of system policies. Each of the plurality of system policies corresponds to an operational control parameter of a system resource of the grid computing system. The regulation module is configured to autonomically regulate the system resource in response to a recognized trigger event according to one of the plurality of system policies. The trigger event may be a prediction trigger event, an initiation trigger event, a regulation trigger event, or a termination trigger event.

Apparatus, system, and method for autonomic control of grid system resources

A semiconductor fabrication facility (fab) configuration module is defined to virtually model physical systems and attributes of a fab. A data acquisition module is defined to interface with the physical systems of the fab and gather operational data from the physical systems. A visualizer module is defined to collect and aggregate the operational data gathered from the physical systems. The visualizer module is further defined to process the operational data into a format suitable for visual rendering. The processed operational data is displayed within a visual context of the fab in a graphical user interface controlled by the visualizer module. An analyzer module is defined to analyze data collected by the visualizer module and to resolve queries regarding fab performance. An optimizer module is defined to control systems within the fab in response to data collected by the visualizer module, data generated by the analyzer module, or a combination thereof.

A check valve and method for manufacture of the check valve. The check valve comprises a substrate and a channel in the substrate. The channel has an anchor region, a channel corridor and a valve seat region. There is an elastomeric valve mechanism in the channel. The valve mechanism has an anchor portion anchored in the anchor region, an elastomeric web portion in the channel corridor and a valve plug in the valve seat region. The elastomeric web portion interconnects the anchor portion and the valve plug. The elastomeric web portion is in a stretched state such that the valve plug is forced by the elastomeric web portion against the valve seat region to seal the valve seat region. The force of the elastomeric web portion can be overcome by operative fluid pressure within the channel to separate the valve plug from the valve seat region and thereby open the channel at the valve seat region to allow the fluid to exit the channel via the valve seat region.

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for backing up data across a plurality of clients on a grid computing system. A sequence management apparatus includes a client request module, a sequence module, and packet storage module. The sequence module is configured to receive data to be backed up from a source client. The sequence module is configured to generate a non-transparent sequence key that identifies one or more target clients on the grid computing system. The packet storage module is configured to store a backup copy of the data from the source client on the plurality of target clients according to the non-transparent sequence key. The non-transparent sequence key may be generated by and known only to the sequence management apparatus in order to maintain a minimum security level for the data backed up on the plurality of target clients.

An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for on-demand control of a grid system resource on a grid computing system. An on-demand management apparatus includes a user input module, a parameter module, and a reservation module. The user input module is configured to allow a user to input a parameter control request. The parameter control request corresponds to a performance parameter of the grid computing system. The global parameter module is configured to dynamically change the performance parameter, which corresponds to a performance resource, according to the parameter control request. The global reservation module is configured to reserve the performance resource for a grid computing operation. The on-demand management apparatus is also configured to terminate a performance resource reservation when a client reclaims the performance resources from the grid computing system.

The on-demand trackless backup-restore system includes a plurality of nodes connected to a network communications channel. The plurality of nodes in the on-demand trackless backup-restore system includes at least one node that is a source client configured to initiate a trackless data backup-restore request and includes one or more nodes that are target clients configured to perform the trackless data backup-restore request. Further, the source client in the on-demand trackless backup-restore system is configured to establish direct connections with one or more of the target clients that are available to perform the trackless data backup-restore request.

System and method for peer-to-peer grid based autonomic and probabilistic on-demand backup and restore

A cathode current control system employing a current thief for use in electroplating a wafer is set forth. The current thief comprises a plurality of conductive segments disposed to substantially surround a peripheral region of the wafer. A first plurality of resistance devices are used, each associated with a respective one of the plurality of conductive segments. The resistance devices are used to regulate current through the respective conductive finger during electroplating of the wafer. Various constructions are used for the current thief and further conductive elements, such as fingers, may also be employed in the system. As with the conductive segments, current through the fingers may also be individually controlled. In accordance with one embodiment of the overall system, selection of the resistance of each respective resistance devices is automatically controlled in accordance with predetermined programming.

A method is disclosed for precision control of pole tip recession of magnetic recording heads. This is achieved by first constructing the head so that the thermal expansion coefficient of the recording head is different from the thermal expansion coefficient of the overcoat. Then the recording head is heated during the lapping process of the slider and recording head. The average and distribution of the recession between the overcoat and the recording head pole tips are improved.

An apparatus for rotary cathode electroplating having a head assembly, a substrate/thief assembly having a thieving ring which includes a number of individually chargeable segments, and a secondary induction assembly including a secondary core and a secondary winding. A motor drives the substrate/thief assembly to rotate relative to the head assembly. A controller directs electrical charge to each of the individually chargeable segments of the thieving ring. An electrical storage device stores electrical energy which is to be supplied to the controller. A charging apparatus induces a magnetic flux which induces an alternating current in the secondary winding of the secondary induction assembly. A converter converts the induced alternating current to direct current, which is then stored on the electrical storage device.

A magnetic induction device having at least one secondary induction assembly including a secondary winding is mounted on a rotary element. A magnetic flux is induced the secondary induction assembly, causing an induced secondary alternating current in the secondary winding of the secondary induction assembly. The secondary alternating current is converting to direct current and is stored in an electrical storage device.

Apparatus for wireless transfer of power to a rotating element

A method is provided for making a well-defined, highly-predictable chevron type MR sensor for a read head. A first material is selected for a first gap layer. A selected second material is deposited on the first gap layer followed by a resist frame that has elongated openings exposing elongated top portions of the first gap layer that extend at an acute angle to a head surface of the read head. A selected reactive ion etch (RIE) is employed to etch away the exposed portions of the second material layer down to the first material of the first gap layer. The material of the second material layer is chosen to be etched by the RIE while the material of the first gap layer is chosen not to be etched by the RIE. An example is Al O for the first gap layer, SiO for the second material layer and a RIE that is fluorine based. The resist frame is removed leaving elongated strips of the second material layer extending at the aforementioned angle to the head surface. MR material is then sputtered on top of the first gap layer and on the second material strips building up a MR sensor which has a ribbed structure on each of its first and second surfaces. The resultant MR head has second material strips sandwiched between the first gap layer and the MR sensor.
