A surfactant film viewing apparatus having a chassis, film wand, and film wand positioning means. The chassis is opaque and has a magnifying lens and a light aperture to allow ambient light into the interior of the chassis. The chassis, with the exception of the light aperture and the magnifying lens, forms an substantially closed surface. The film wand has a hoop suitable for supporting a surfactant film across its span. The apparatus includes a means for positioning of said hoop in said interior of said chassis such that the position of said hoop relative to the magnifying lens is stable but manually adjustable so the surfactant film can be positioned for viewing by said magnifying lens. The apparatus may include a reservoir for the surfactant/water mixture, and the means for positioning may also include a means for dipping the hoop in the surfactant/water mixture. In an alternate embodiment the wand has multiple hoops each of which is capable of supporting a surfactant film, rotation of the wand bringing the surfactant films sequentially into view.

High-contrast soap film magnification device

A method and apparatus for embedded encoding of overlay data ordering in an in-situ interferometer is described. An in-situ interferometer is encoded, or augmented, with special or missing alignment attributes at desired positions. Exposing a sequence of the encoded in-situ interferometer onto a silicon wafer coated with a suitable recording media. Then measuring the alignment attributes. The encoded overlay data is processed to verify the proper order and physical location of each overlay measurement. The data is collected without increasing the overall number of required overlay measurements required. Collection of overlay data allows for the proper reconstruction of the aberrated wavefront. Non-coupling alignment attribute offsets can also be used to perform similar operations using singular value decomposition and null space operations.

Method and apparatus for embedded encoding of overlay data ordering in an in-situ interferometer

A cylindrical metal disc is optimized to spin/roll on a base for an extended length of time, and as the angle of inclination of the disc decreases to zero, a tone emitted by the spinning/rolling of the disc rises in pitch towards infinity. To optimize the spinning/rolling time, the radius-to-height aspect ratio of the disc is approximately three, the upper surface of the base and the lower edge of the disc are smooth and hard to enable the disc to spin/roll for an extended length of time, and the base has three legs and is solidly constructed to minimize energy losses due to vibration. The upper surface of the base is concave to prevent the disc from wandering as it spins/rolls. The top of the disc is tessellated with tiles having effectively random optic orientations to produce the appearance of a cloud of sparkling lights in the vicinity of the top surface of the disc as it spins/rolls.
