In some examples, a heat exchanger includes a first flow channel having a first flow channel inlet and a first flow channel outlet. The heat exchanger also includes a second flow channel having a second flow channel inlet and a second flow channel outlet. A fin may separate the first flow channel from the second flow channel. The fin may define at least one aperture configured to allow fluid to flow between the first flow channel and the second flow channel if one of the first flow channel inlet or second flow channel inlet becomes constricted through a buildup of foreign object debris.

A heat exchanger includes a plurality of interconnected separator members that respectively include a first surface and an opposite second surface. The separator members respectively include an array of wave features. Also, the separator members are stacked and disposed in an alternating arrangement with the first surfaces of adjacent separator members facing each other and attached at the respective wave features, and with the second surfaces of adjacent separator members facing each other and attached at the respective wave features. The heat exchanger also includes a plurality of first flow passages for first fluid flow and second flow passages for second fluid flow. The second fluid and the first fluid are configured to exchange heat through the separator members.

A heat exchanger includes a separator member that divides a first flow passage from a second flow passage. The heat exchanger also includes a plurality of first hollow members that extend across the first flow passage at respective non-orthogonal angles. The plurality of first hollow members are fluidly connected to the second flow passage. Moreover, the heat exchanger includes a plurality of second hollow members that extend across the second flow passage at respective non-orthogonal angles. The plurality of second hollow members are fluidly connected to the first flow passage.

A nose cone of a turbomachine, such as an aircraft engine, is heated to prevent ice formation. The nose cone is configured as a conical shell positioned concentrically over an inner shell with a space therebetween. Spiral spacers in the space provide distributed passages through which heated lubricating oil flows. A system for separating entrained air from the lubricating oil as part of this mechanism is disclosed.

A two fluid thermal storage device that may allow for independent heating and cooling includes a plurality of plate members with a set of dividers brazed between two of them. The set of dividers, which may define a series of passageways therein, may include a first sub-series of alternate passageways filled with a phase change material, and a second sub-series of remaining passageways that transports a fluid, the remaining passageways alternating between transporting a cooling fluid through a first fluid circuit and transporting a heating fluid through a second and independent fluid circuit. The remaining passageways that transport the cooling fluid through the first fluid circuit are defined by a first subset of dividers and the remaining passageways that transport the heating fluid through the second fluid circuit are defined by a second subset of dividers.

An environmental control system (ECS) for an aircraft may be employed to regulate temperature of air entering a cabin of the aircraft. During conditioning of the air, condensate may form in the air. A multiple-stage condensate extraction unit may be incorporated into the ECS to remove the condensate. The extraction unit may be provided with two fluid collection stages built into a cylindrical duct. The duct may have a bend therein. One of the collection stages may be positioned on an upstream side of the bend while the second one of the stages may be positioned on a downstream side thereof. The combination of the two stages and their positioning on either side of the bend may provide a particularly compact and efficient condensate extraction unit.

A flow diverter comprises a heat sink array in fluid communication with a turbine outlet and an inlet face of a heat exchanger, the heat sink array comprising a plurality of heat sink elements, the heat sink array being separated from the inlet face by a distance, and the heat sink array being positioned between the turbine outlet and the inlet face such that at least a portion of a fluid flowing from the turbine outlet contacts the heat sink array before the portion of the fluid contacts the heat exchanger inlet face.

A heat exchanger for transferring energy from a second fluid to a first fluid has a plurality of tubes to carry one of the fluids and a layer of thermal buffer members on one side of the tubes to act as a buffer to reduce high thermal stresses that may be caused by global temperature patterns and localized high gradients that occur in system transients such as start up and shutdown. Conventional heat exchangers often have a short lifespan due to high thermal stresses acting on the core of the heat exchanger. The heat exchanger uses the thermal buffer members as an increased thermal mass to cause the temperature of the heat exchanger core to change in a more gradual manner, thereby reducing thermal stresses.
