A hair dye product is packaged in a container having a web-printed label. The label is printed on high quality paper or plastic film and has a picture of a human model whose hair is the color sought to be obtained by the hair dye. The printing process provides an accurate reproduction of the tone and hue of each hair color over the entire production run of the labels. The container may be a relatively low cost generic container of web-printed paperboard or plastic produced in a high volume production run.

A method of printing multi-color images on pressure sensitive labels carried on a web uses a disk shaped mark for each color which is printed to form the image. The disks (spots) are printed on the image, or elsewhere on the top layer of the web, with one disk being printed on top of the other, so that the marks coincide in size, shape and position. If a color is misregistered, it appears as a crescent which extends beyond the multi-colored disk. Such misregistration may be immediately viewed on a video magnifier, using at least 400.times. magnification, and the misregistration corrected.

A combined brush and comb ('brush-comb') is used to apply tones, touches or streaks of hair treatment liquid to human hair. The brush-comb has a curved body portion terminating in a tip, which may be used to part the hair, and a head portion having comb tines and brush tufts positioned close to the tines. Each tine has at least one and preferably a plurality of grooves perpendicular to its axis to retain the liquid and to replenish the liquid to the brush tufts. In operation, the brush-comb head portion is dipped into a container of the liquid and then the head portion is pulled through the hair to apply touches of the liquid to selected areas of the hair.

A dual-compartment container for use with two substances which must be separated prior to use and which may be combined by the single step of removing the cap from the container. A top container containing one substance is sealed along its bottom end by a membrane and is rotatably seated within a bottom container containing another substance. A container cap seals the top container prior to use and is threaded onto the bottom container. The cap is provided with a ratchet means which causes common rotation of the cap and the top container while the cap is being unthreaded from the bottom container. An annular knife member is interposed between the two containers and keyed to the top container for common rotation therewith as the cap is removed. Cam means are provided to translate rotary motion of the knife member relative to the bottom container into longitudinal motion of the knife member relative to the top container in order to pierce the sealing membrane.
