A portable electric powered or pneumatic powered paint system designed to worn in a typical workman's tool belt and thus accompany the painter as he moves from wall to wall and room to room without the restriction of electrical cords plugged into wall outlets or air hoses connected to an air compressor. The electrically powered embodiment of the invention consists of a paint reservoir, an electric paint pump, a power pack of two or more 18 Volt batteries, a paint applicator and associated paint supply tubing for transfer of paint from the reservoir to the paint applicator. The pneumatic embodiment of the invention replaces the electric paint pump and battery power pack with a pressurized air bottle and pressure regulator. Both embodiments of the invention provide the painter with a self-contained powered painting system.

A current transformer comprises a coil, a core and a shunt member. The core forms a magnetic circuit and has a first permeability. At least a portion of the core is encircled by the coil. The shunt member is coupled to the core and has a second permeability. A sensor apparatus is for a power bus including a plurality of characteristics. The sensor apparatus includes a housing; one or more sensors each adapted to sense a characteristic of the power bus; and a circuit adapted to transmit or receive a wireless signal. A processor includes a low-power mode and a routine adapted to wake up from the low-power mode, to input the sensed characteristic from the one or more sensors, to output a corresponding signal to the circuit to transmit as the wireless signal, and to sleep in the low-power mode. A power supply is adapted to power the sensors, the circuit and the processor from flux arising from current flowing in the power bus. The power supply includes one or more voltages.

Protection is provided for servicing a distribution bus by grounding the line side of a circuit breaker through which the distribution bus is fed and then closing the circuit breaker. The trip unit of the circuit breaker includes logic, in addition to the normal protection logic, which opens the circuit breaker main contacts without delay if current is detected upon closing of the grounded circuit breaker. However, if the grounded circuit breaker has been closed for a selected period of time and then current is detected, the distribution bus is kept at zero potential by not operating the breaker. A breaker auxiliary switch with a mechanical delay provides the indication of the selected time interval after closing the circuit breaker.

A circuit breaker includes a set of main separable contacts, an operating mechanism for operating the main separable contacts, a set of secondary separable contacts in series with the main separable contacts, and a solenoid mechanism for operating the secondary separable contacts. A first auxiliary switch is responsive to the operating mechanism, and a second auxiliary switch, electrically connected to the first auxiliary switch, is responsive to the solenoid mechanism. An input terminal for a control voltage is electrically connected to the first and second auxiliary switches. A first diode is electrically connected with a forward polarity between the first auxiliary switch and an output terminal. A second diode is electrically connected with a reverse polarity between the second auxiliary switch and the output terminal.

A microprocessor-based trip mechanism provides a trip signal, which is employed by the circuit breaker's operating mechanism to open the separable contacts as a function of the sensed electrical conditions and related predetermined operating values. The microcomputer's transceiver communicates with the second trip unit over a passive two-wire communication cable to acquire the predetermined settings of the second trip unit. The microcomputer includes a firmware routine which employs the acquired predetermined settings as its predetermined values.

A circuit breaker includes separable contacts for movement between a closed position and an open position, and an operating mechanism for moving the separable contacts between the closed and open positions. Current transformers and potential transformers sense current, voltage and frequency conditions of the separable contacts and produce signals corresponding to those electrical conditions. A trip unit employs those signals corresponding to the electrical conditions to produce a trip signal. A trip coil employs the trip signal to actuate the operating mechanism to move the separable contacts to the open position. A closing mechanism produces a close signal, and a close actuator mechanism employs the close signal to actuate the operating mechanism to move the separable contacts to the closed position. The trip unit includes a microprocessor-based firmware routine for selectively enabling and disabling the close actuator mechanism as a function of the signals corresponding to the electrical conditions.

A circuit breaker includes separable contacts for movement between a closed position and an open position. An operating mechanism moves the separable contacts between the closed and open positions and has a closed state and an open or tripped state which corresponds to the open position. A trip circuit senses electrical current flowing through the separable contacts, employs the sensed current to trip the operating mechanism to the tripped state to move the separable contacts to the open position, and provides plural status signals. A display circuit cooperates with the trip circuit and includes light emitting diodes for outputting the status signals. A battery powers the display circuit which further includes an oscillator circuit for modulating the LEDs to reduce power from the battery to the display circuit.

A circuit breaker includes separable contacts for movement between a closed position and an open position. An operating mechanism, which moves the separable contacts between the closed and open positions, has a closed state and an open or tripped state which corresponds to the open position. A current transformer senses electrical current flowing through the separable contacts as a sensed current. A trip mechanism employs the sensed current for tripping the operating mechanism to the tripped position to move the separable contacts to the open position. The trip mechanism includes a microprocessor which generates short delay and ground fault trip functions of electrical current and time. The microprocessor inputs a first interlock signal from a downstream electrical switching device which generates the first interlock signal with a first value when current through the downstream device exceeds a predetermined value and with a second value otherwise. The microprocessor generates and outputs a second interlock signal to an upstream electrical switching device in response to both of the first and second trip functions. The trip mechanism selectively trips the operating mechanism as a function of the first interlock signal, the first trip function, and the second trip function.
