Techniques are described for managing access and synchronization of one or more files of a document management system stored locally at a client device. The techniques may include receiving, by a document management system executing on a server device, a file update notification message from a first client device to notify the document management system that a file was modified by the first client device. The file update notification message may include an indication of the modified file on the first client device without including the modified file. The document management system may receive a file editing request from a second client device to request the file. In response, the document management system may send a file upload request to the first client device, receive the modified file from the first client device, and send the modified file to the second client device.

On-demand file synchronization

A secure access is provided to a plurality of software application features associated with a plurality of software applications running on a user's device, wherein the secure access is provided from a web browser application associated with the user's device. This may include providing an open connection between a server and at least one software application within the plurality of software running on the user's device. This may also include sending a message from the web browser application to the server. This may further include detecting the sent message from the web browser application to the server. Additionally, the open connection may be used to send data from the server to the at least one software application.

Secure access to running client application features from a browser application

An un-authenticated user attempts to access a protected resource at a Web- or cloud-based application from within a rich client. The client has an associated local HTTP server. Upon being refused access, a browser-based login dialog is opened automatically within an embedded browser panel. After receipt of the user's login credential in the panel, the browser passes the credential server application. If the user is authenticated, the browser-based dialog receives a cookie establishing that the user is authenticated for a session. The browser then automatically makes a request to the HTTP server, passing the cookie. Upon receipt of the request at the rich client HTTP server, the rich client saves the cookie in an associated data store, shuts down the login dialog, and re-issues the original request to the server, this time passing the cookie. The rich client, having provided the cookie, is then permitted to access the resource.

Cross-platform authentication from within a rich client

A technique for automated login to a browser application from a non-browser based client application begins upon the end user taking an action to access a target resource. A credential is associated with the client application as a result of a prior login operation. The technique is implemented in a server application associated with the client application. It enables automatic and secure passing of the client application credential to the counterpart browser application that is launched by the client application.

Method and apparatus to auto-login to a browser application launched from an authenticated client application

An enhanced e-mail reader and composer having automatic addressing functions to create and manage chain groups for organizing chain-forwarded and chain-replied messages. The system and method allows users to receive chained messages, automatically create chain groups within their address book, associate chain message participants to chain groups, and to automatically address new messages to members of chain groups stored within their address book.

Method and system for e-mail chain group

A system and method for reformatting chain forwarded and chain replied electronic messages into thread-of-discussion messages for improved readability and reader comprehension. The chained electronic messages are parsed into discussion entries which are then sorted by a preferred order, such as last-to-first by date of creation. Extraneous fields and data which are not part of the substantive discussion are removed from the discussion entries. Long or full electronic mail addresses are replaced by abbreviations or preferred nicknames which may be found in an address book. Finally, the sorted discussion entries with source abbreviations or preferred nicknames are combined and output as a thread-of-discussion format message.

An enhanced e-mail composer provides an enhanced electronic message header which indicates a chain of addresses for previous recipients of a chain-forwarded message, and interoperates with the enhanced e-mail reader.

A client station on computer network uses an operating system such as JavaOS which is permanently stored at the server rather than on storage media at the client location. Once the basic system is booted using local firmware, and the base file systems on the network are enabled, an application can begin running, and when it needs to use a particular class file a request will be made through the file system and will be routed over to a generic file system driver, on the client, which will then determine, using a set of configured information, where this class exists; it will utilize the particular file systems available on to that booted client, whether it be NFS, or TFTP, to determine where the server is and how to retrieve that particular class file. It will go ahead and force that operation to occur and the class file will be retrieved and cached locally on the client to be used by the application. In order to avoid loading unneeded or lesser-used parts of the JavaOS from the server to the client memory at boot time, groups of classes are broken out of the monolithic image of JavaOS, as part of the Java service loader model (JSL). JSL-provided packages allow an URL prefix to be provided as part of a package's configuration information. When a class method/data is requested by the loader via the filesystem, if it is not already present, the URL prefix is used to lazily retrieve and cache that file in memory. This allows classes and data files to be delivered as needed, and significantly reduces the amount of data to be retrieved by TFTP by the client at boot time.

Selective loading of client operating system in a computer network

Disclosed is a system, method, and program for displaying data. A program receives first input graphics commands from a first application program to display first output on a display monitor and second input graphics commands from a second application program to display second output on the display monitor. The second output is graphically blended with an overlapping portion of the first output. Output graphics commands are generated from the first and second input graphics commands to display the graphically blended second output superimposed over an overlapping portion of the first output and the first output non-overlapping with the second output. This allows the content of the secondary output to be displayed without affecting user operations with respect to the primary application window.

The JavaOS is loaded and installed at the client upon bootup of the client. The client loads certain standard file systems as part of the basic OS code that it receives from the server. These employ a generic file system driver, which is located in Java code rather than in native code at the client. In addition to the standard file systems, other file systems may be installed, using this generic file system driver. For example, a file system for a hard drive may be installed at a particular client, even though this file system is not part of the set of standard file systems. Providing the generic file system driver or handler switch in Java code rather than native code allows file systems to be dynamically added to a running system.
