A multiplanar, conductive gasket material having a foam core, a conductive web layer comprising a blended mixture of conductive fibers and nonconductive fibers, and a plurality of blended mixture fibers interspersed through the foam core. The blended mixture fibers are heat set within the gasket material.

A multiplanar, conductive gasket material having a foam core, a conductive web layer comprising a blended mixture of conductive fibers and nonconductive fibers, a reinforcing fabric and a plurality of blended mixture fibers interspersed through the foam core and the reinforcing fabric. The blended mixture fibers are heat set within the gasket material.

An electromagnetic interference shield for use around access panels and doors in electronic equipment enclosures includes a base and profile manufactured from an electrically nonconductive solid material such as a thermoplastic resin polymer. An electrically conductive layer of a metallized fabric is bonded to the profile to provide effective shielding and grounding function. The underlying polymer provides elastic compliancy and resiliency to the shield. The shield may be divided into flexible fingers which can be rectangular or nonlinear shaped. The nonlinear shaped flexible finger from nonlinear shaped slits between the fingers which provides improved EMI shielding by reducing the amount of EMI transmission that can pass through the shield. The electromagnetic interference shield may also be made from an electrically conductive material.

An electromagnetic interference shield for use around access panels and doors in electronic equipment enclosures includes a base and profile manufactured from an electrically nonconductive solid material such as a thermoplastic resin polymer. An electrically conductive layer of a metallized fabric is bonded to the profile to provide effective shielding and grounding functions. The underlying polymer provides elastic compliancy and resiliency to the shield.

One embodiment of a gasket for shielding electromagnetic interference passing through a seam between first and second electrically conductive bodies includes a base for securing the gasket to the first, electrically conductive body and a multiplicity of discrete, elongate, metallized filaments projecting substantially perpendicularly from the base so that a substantial amount of the filaments contacts the second, electrically conductive body when electromagnetic interference passing through a seam between the bodies is to be shielded. The gasket further includes structure, arranged with the base, for providing an electrically conductive path for conducting electric current between the filaments and the first, electrically conductive body. In this manner, energy absorbed the shielding member as a result of the shielding of passing electromagnetic interference can be dissipated to ground through the first, electrically conductive body. The gasket is particularly useful for shielding electromagnetic energy passing through seams between electrical apparatus housings and door or access panels in such housings.

EMI-shielding gasket

A conductive gasket for sealing facing flange plates against passage of electromagnetic and environmental effets has a conductive sheath, for example supported on a molded, resilient foam core, and structure for affixing the seal to conductive elements to be sealed. A conductive coating having suspended conductive particles in a nonreactive binder is applied externally to the sheath in order to reduce galvanic corrosion by isolating the dissimilar metals contained in the sealed elements and in the conductive sheath. The sheath coating is preferably applied as a colloidal suspension of carbon particles, to the entire outer surface of a metal plated sheath and provides a low resistance, environmentally isolated junction between the sheath and the elements to be sealed, excluding environmental electrolytes, while improving abrasion resistance and flame retardant attributes of the seal.
