A cut-resistant, machine knittable, composite yarn that utilizes a yarn or fiber strand or component of normal strength (no greater than 10 grams per denier tenacity) liquid crystal polymer, to provide a composite yarn of comparable high cut-resistance to composite yarns of similar construction that utilize high strength synthetic yarn or fiber. Also protective articles of apparel knitted from such yarn, specifically a cut-resistant protective glove.

Knittable yarn and safety apparel

A yarn having cut-resistant and antimicrobial properties. The yarn includes at least one core fiber, and preferably two core fibers. Examples of core fibers include fiberglass, polyester fibers, and high density polyethylene fibers. The core fibers are overwrapped with counter helixes of a cut resistant fiber and an antimicrobial fiber. An example of a cut resistant fiber is a high density polyethylene, and an example of a fiber having a antimicrobial substance is MICROSAFE&reg; acetate fiber manufactured by Celenese. The yarn is particularly suited for use in making gloves and other protective apparel worn by individuals handling and processing food. The antimicrobial substance is embedded in the yarn so that the apparel is reusable and can be subjected to numerous washings without washing away the antimicrobial.

Cut-resistant antimicrobial yarn and article of wearing apparel made therefrom

A cut-resistant fabric machine-knitted two-ends-in from two different yarns, one of which contains cut-resistant fiber and the other of which contains fibers having a hardness that tends to dull a cutting blade.

Cut-resistant knitted fabric

Cut-resistant yarn suitable for machine knitting and machine-knitted protective articles of apparel, more specifically flexible gloves, at least in part made from such a yarn and also such gloves having a slip-resistant coating, preferably polyurethane, applied in a predetermined pattern to the outside surface of the gloves. The yarn utilizes a core of synthetic fibers held in a bundle by two initial wraps of low denier synthetic material having widely spaced turns or by a plastic coating on, or by a plastic matrix for, the fibers. One or more strands of metal wire or glass fiber are disposed about the core. The initial wraps or plastic that bundle the core create a uniform, cylindrical shape to the multi-filament fiber core that is believed to increase cut-resistance and that promotes uniformity in yarn diameter as subsequent wraps are applied, and prevent sharp bends in the wire or glass fibers disposed about the core. Additional wraps cover the wire or glass fiber.

Yarn and safety apparel

A cut-resistant braided yarn and apparel knit from the yarn; the braided yarn may be constructed as a simple hollow braid, but preferably comprises a core and a covering braided on the core; the braid or the braided covering on the core of the yarn comprises three or more strands of fiber selected from high and normal-strength fibers; the core comprises a high-strength fiber core-strand and may include a stainless steel wire core-strand; the denier and number of braiding strands is such that the final diameter of the yarn does not exceed about 0.035' (thirty five thousandths of an inch).

A slip-resistant, flexible, cushioning cover for a handle, formed of an elastomeric tube having at least one open end, said tube having ribs on an outside surface. The ribs each have sidewalls extending from the outside surface, and a top wall extending between the sidewalls, forming an outer surface of the ribs. The outer surface of the ribs is concave and the junctures of the top surface and the sidewalls have sharp edges.

Slip-resistant cushioning covers for handles

A method of applying a flexible cover to a handle by placing the cover on a mandrel like apparatus, rolling the cover into a toroidal shape and expanding the circumferential dimension of the toroidally shaped cover. Once the circumferential dimension of the toroidally shaped cover is increased, the handle is adjacently placed next to the toroidally shaped cover. The cover is then unrolled onto a preselected area of the handle.

Method and apparatus for applying a handle cover

A slip-resistant, flexible, cushioning wrap for a handle comprising a laminate suitable for covering the handle. The laminate has a base layer of cushioning, non-absorbent closed-cell foam having an outer layer of washable, grip-enhancing, random and open-cell foam laminated to one side and having a pressure sensitive adhesive applied to the other side. The laminate may be formed as a sheet or a tube. A sheet of laminate may be cut to conform to the contours of the handle and then wrapped about the handle with the edges either overlapping or abutting. A tube of laminate may also be formed to fit the contours of the handle.
