A two dimensional gas turbine engine exhaust nozzle includes transversely spaced apart upper and lower convergent and divergent flaps and extending longitudinally in a downstream direction and between two widthwise spaced apart sidewalls. The divergent flaps have inwardly facing upper and lower flap surfaces defining together with the sidewalls at least a part of an exhaust stream flowpath therebetween. The upper and lower flap surfaces have respective upper and lower apexes wherein the upper apex is axially spaced apart and aft of the lower apex. The upper divergent flap has an expansion ramp diverging away from the nozzle axis. The ramp extends aftwardly from the upper apex and aftwardly of a trailing edge of the lower divergent flap. The upper and lower divergent flaps are operably movable to block a line of sight along the nozzle axis through an exit of the nozzle during engine operation.

Infrared suppressing two dimensional vectorable single expansion ramp nozzle

A short take off and vertical landing (STOVL) nozzle for a jet aircraft provides thrust reversing and thrust vectoring functions using two pairs of flaps. Each flap is independently actuated and controlled to allow for numerous exhaust gas exit configurations. A two dimensional or rectangular center plug extends across the nozzle throat region to allow one pair of flaps to selectively engage the plug for STOVL operation.

Multifunction exhaust system for gas turbine engines

A bimetallic leaf seal 40 for forming an air seal between adjacent structures (38, 42). The bimetallic seal 40 comprises two metallic layers 46, 48 having different coefficients of thermal expansion. The seal moves in a preferred direction upon the application of heat to form an air seal upon the application of heat.

Bimetallic air seal for exhaust nozzles

Seal means for reducing the gas flow through the space between the opposing ends of first and second concentric axially disposed cylinders is disclosed. The seal means includes a presizeable annular leaf seal concentrically mateable with the first cylinder. In addition, the seal means includes securing means for securing the left seal to the second cylinder. In a specific embodiment, the seal means provides an effective seal between a turbine rear frame and mixer liner.

Seal

Sound-suppressing structure comprising stacked acoustic panels wherein the inner high frequency panel is mounted for thermal expansion with respect to the outer low frequency panel. Slip joints eliminate the potential for thermal stresses, and a thermal expansion gap between the panels provides for additional relative thermal growth while reducing heat convection into the low frequency panel.
