User identification information is received through a user interface device. A processor device supplies the user identification information through an input/output device to an external computerized device to receive, in response, external authorization to use features of an apparatus. The user interface device outputs a menu having options to create a local account based on the external authorization and, in response, receives instructions to create a local account using the processor device. The local account is created based on the instructions being received using the processor device. The local account is stored in a memory device. After creation of the local account, the processor device generates local authorization to use the features of the apparatus based on the user identification information matching information in the local account stored in the memory device, without contacting the external computerized device for the external authorization.

Self-creation and self-administration of local user authentication accounts operable during network disruptions

An enterprise owned multi-function device (MFD) is disclosed. For example, the MFD includes, a communication interface to establish a communication session with an authentication server, a re-activation timer, a processor and a non-transitory computer readable medium storing instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to authenticate the enterprise owned MFD over the communication session when the enterprise owned MFD is activated at a remote location of an employee, create a local account of the employee for local authentication, and authorize access to the employee via the local account of the employee until the re-activation timer expires.

A downloaded app controls a device to recognize whether a connected card reader is an unsupported card reader or whether an unsupported card is supplied to the connected card reader. The app automatically generates support for the unsupported card reader or unsupported card by reading the identifying information from the unsupported card reader or unsupported card, modifying an existing driver support file by adding the identifying information to the existing driver support file to create a modified driver support file, and testing the unsupported card reader or unsupported card using the modified driver support file. If the tests are successful, the app then supplies the modified driver support file to other devices separate from the printer.

A phase change inkjet printer is equipped with an agitator to prevent settling of metal particles in melted magnetic phase change ink. A coating system comprises a high gloss coating ink supply source, and a low gloss coating ink supply source. The system includes a coating module configured to receive the high gloss coating ink and the low gloss coating ink. The coating module includes a first and second group of nozzles configured to emit the high gloss and low gloss coating inks, respectively. The coating system has a controller that is configured to selectively actuate the first group and second group of inkjet nozzles to deposit the high gloss and low gloss coating inks onto the image receiving surface in accordance with a halftone pattern to form a gloss coating, the halftone pattern specifying a halftone density for the high gloss coating ink and for the low gloss coating ink, the halftone densities of the high and low gloss coating inks corresponding to a gloss level for the gloss coating.

A printing apparatus has been developed that prints inkjet images on a continuous web with a configurable number of distinct ink colors. The printing apparatus includes a frame configured to support a plurality of components to form a printing system, the frame including a plurality of mounting locations, a plurality of printing system components including at least one printhead array and at least one first ink composition curing assembly, each printing system component in the plurality of printing system components being configured to mount to a mounting location on the frame, and the printing apparatus being enabled to eject a first ink composition onto an image receiving surface when a first set of printing system components selected from the plurality of printing system components is mounted to the frame and being enabled to eject a second ink composition onto an image receiving surface when a second set of printing system components selected from the plurality of printing system components is mounted to the frame, the second set of printing system components not including a first ink composition curing assembly.

Inkjet printing apparatus

A printing system performs full printhead assembly width duplex printing operations on both sides of a continuous web of print media. The printing system includes an entrance roller configured to receive a print media and to direct the print media in a first direction or a second direction, an intermediate roller configured to receive the print media after the entrance roller directs the print media in the first direction, and to direct the print media in a third direction substantially opposite to the first direction, and an exit roller. An inverter apparatus inverts the print media after the entrance roller directs the print media in the first direction and before the exit roller receives the print media.

Continuous feed duplex printer

A merging module connects two printing systems at approximately 90 degrees to one another. The merging module includes a sheet rotator in a plane that is common to the paper paths of both print engines and a buffer. It also includes two bypass paths (one above and one below the rotator) to route the two paper paths around the rotator and enable both print engines to deliver their output to the appropriate finishing device as well as to the buffer.

Mixed output print control method and system

A custom color printhead module comprises a mixing reservoir having a first opening and a second opening each configured to receive a first colored ink and a second colored ink and to mix the ink in the reservoir to form a custom colored ink. A first and a second reservoir supply valve are connected to the first and second opening, respectively, to open and close the first and second openings to enable and disable a flow of a first colored ink and a second colored ink into the mixing reservoir. A printhead is connected to the mixing reservoir to receive the custom colored ink from the mixing reservoir. A housing is configured to support the mixing reservoir and the printhead and configured for connection and removal from an imaging device.

Custom color printhead module

A printing system includes first and second marking engines which output marked print media to first and second angularly spaced print streams. The marking engines define, at least in part, first and second sides of a working area, whereby a user has access to the first and second marking engines via access members on the first and second sides of the working area. A merge module receives print media from the first and second print streams. The merge module includes at least one rotate and redirect path for merging print media from one of the first and second streams with print media from the other of the first and second streams to generate a merged print stream. At least one finisher receives the merged print stream from the merge module.

Efficient cross-stream printing system

A coating system comprises a high gloss coating ink supply source, and a low gloss coating ink supply source. The system includes a coating module configured to receive the high gloss coating ink and the low gloss coating ink. The coating module includes a first group of nozzles configured to emit the high gloss coating ink, and a second group of nozzles configured to emit the low gloss coating ink. The coating module includes a mixing reservoir configured to receive the high gloss coating ink and the low gloss coating ink and to commingle the high gloss coating ink and the low gloss coating ink to form an intermediate gloss coating ink. The coating module includes a third group of inkjet nozzles configured to emit the intermediate gloss coating ink.

A digital printing apparatus is controlled to provide a roughly consistent output rate, of printed sheets per minute, regardless of the size and orientation of the output print sheets. In one embodiment, the printer outputs short-edge-fed legal or A3 sheets within 25% of the rate it can output long-edge-fed letter or A4 sheets.

The disclosed embodiments are directed to the printing of mixed output jobs automatically as a single integrated job. More particularly, a merging module connects two print systems, for example, at approximately 90 degrees to one another, although other configurations are possible. A document forming apparatus, comprising a substrate feeder for storing and dispensing substrates to a printing engine, a controller for controlling the operation of the document forming apparatus, wherein the controller includes at least one database for storing information for the operation of the substrate feeder, and a user interface for controlling the operation of the document forming apparatus. The user interface includes a stock library view, a stock settings dialog screen having an expert feeder controls section with a manual mode operator and an auto mode operator, and a control panel screen for manual mode operation. The control panel screen includes means for adjusting a plurality of feeder parameters, indicators for manual and auto modes, and a save settings operator.
