An orthopaedic driving instrument including a first end portion, a second end portion opposite the first end portion, and a central portion, intermediate the first and second end portions, comprising a central section having an outer diameter representing a maximum outer diameter of the driving instrument. The first end comprises a first driving interface sized and shaped to, in operation of the instrument, engage a screw interface of a screw for applying torque to the screw. The second end comprises a second driving interface sized and shaped as the size and shape of the first driving interface.

Variable-thickness-handle driver instrument

A spinal-correction system having (i) a receiver including a base and opposing arms extending proximally from the base forming a rod-receiving cavity, (ii) a pair of extender tabs, each extender tab having threaded inner walls for receiving threads of a setscrew, (iii) a pair of tab extenders each being connectable releasably to one of the extender tabs, (iv) a cap instrument connectable releasably to the tab extenders, and (v) a pair of breakoff sections, each connecting one of the extender tabs to one of the receiver arms, and each being readily breakable for separating the extender tab from the receiver arm. The distal base defines a bonescrew cavity to receive a bonescrew head so that the head can move relative to the base. Each receiver arm has threaded inner walls for receiving setscrew threads. The rod-receiving cavity has geometry corresponds to geometry of the setscrew and a spinal-correction rod.

A bone screw comprises a threaded shank including a distal end portion and a proximal end portion, and defining a first threaded section extending from the distal end portion toward the proximal end portion and adapted for anchoring in cancellous bone. A second threaded section extends contiguously from the first threaded section toward the proximal end portion The second threaded section has a finer thread pattern relative to the first threaded section. In one embodiment, the first threaded section includes a first helical threading defining a single lead thread pattern for anchoring in cancellous bone, and the second threaded section includes a second helical threading interleaved with the first threading to define a duel lead thread pattern for engagement in cortical bone. In a further embodiment, the bone screw includes a head portion extending from the threaded shank and configured for coupling to a spinal implant.

Multi-thread bone screw and method

A bone screw comprising a threaded shank including a distal end portion and a proximal end portion, and defining a first threaded section extending from the distal end portion toward the proximal end portion and adapted for anchoring in cancellous bone, and a second threaded section extending contiguously from the first threaded section toward the proximal end portion and adapted for engagement in cortical bone, with the second threaded section having a finer thread pattern relative to the first threaded section. In one embodiment, the first threaded section includes a first helical threading defining a single lead thread pattern for anchoring in cancellous bone, and the second threaded section includes a second helical threading interleaved with the first threading to define a duel lead thread pattern for engagement in cortical bone. An orthopedic implant is disclosed having at least one passage for an elongated member that is compressible. In certain embodiments, multiple compressible elongated member passages may be provided, or an elongated member passage may be U-shaped and closable by a closure member. Split ring members may be provided in compressible passages and around elongated members. A bone anchor may be connected to the implant so that locking the anchor to the implant compresses one or more of the elongated member passages.

Dorsal adjusting multi-rod connector

A spinal implant system is provided having a stabilization rod, a plurality of bone anchors which could be either hooks or screws and which have an internal recess that defines a rod-receiving channel. Sidewalls of the anchor project beyond the recess, and are threaded on the outside. These external threads cooperate with the internal threads of a locking member, or cap nut, which has a top surface with a cavity that includes an internal hexagon. The internal threads are on the inside of the cylindrical sidewalls of the cap nut. Further, on the bottom side of the top surface, the cap nut has a guide member in the form of a cylindrical boss, which has a smaller diameter than that of the recess within the anchor. The boss helps to prevent cross threading and to prevent collapse of the anchor sidewalls under high forces. An annular ridge on the bottom of the boss further helps to retain the rod relative to the anchor.
