Acoustic waves from a controllable downhole acoustic source in a cased borehole are focused into a region of an earth formation. A hydrophone is used to monitor acoustic signals for onset of cavitation. The estimated pressure from the source in the focus region provides an estimate of formation pore pressure.

Method and apparatus for measuring pore pressure beyond the casing

An apparatus for evaluating a tubular in a borehole of includes at least two electromagnetic acoustic transducers. The transducers are configured to generate and receive first and second acoustic waves in the tubular. A difference in velocity of the two acoustic waves is indicative of a stress field in the tubular.

A method and system for cementing and perforating a wellbore in a single step by coupling a perforating gun with a wiper plug. The method includes injecting cement in a wellbore having casing therein and an annulus between the casing and wellbore. A wiper plug is dropped on the cement having a perforating gun attached to the wiper plug. The plug is forced downward pulling the perforating gun along. The downward motion of the plug in turn pushes the cement out the bottom end of the casing and into the annulus. The cement in the annulus is allowed to set and the perforating gun is activated.

The SH0 group velocity and SH1 mode group velocity (Vg) are measured and the measured SH0 mode group velocity is assigned as the tubular material shear velocity (Vs). A shear wave wavelength &#x3bb; from the ratio of SH0 mode frequency (f) and the measured SH0 group velocity is estimated. The tubular thickness (d) is estimated from the estimated shear wave wavelength &#x3bb;. The transmitter can be calibrated to operate at an optimum frequency.

Apparatus and method of using multi-component measurements for casing evaluation

A method and apparatus useful to determine the integrity of a cement bond log disposed in the annular space between a casing and a wellbore. The method and apparatus produce a transversely polarized shear wave and emit the wave through the casing and into the wellbore. The transversely polarized shear wave attenuates upon passage through the cement bond log. The integrity of the cement bond log can be determined through an analysis and evaluation of the attenuation results.

Method and apparatus for cement evaluation using multiple acoustic wave types

A modular wellbore treatment system having a reservoir for holding wellbore/reservoir treatment material, a pump for pressurizing and delivering the wellbore/reservoir treatment fluid, and a sealing section for creating a localized pressurized zone proximate to a region of a formation to be treated. The wellbore treatment fluid includes permeability modifiers, gel, acids, stimulation fluids, epoxy type substances, void fillers, gravel pack fixing compounds, brine, reactive fluids to water, oil, and gas, and alcohol.

Wellbore and reservoir treatment device and method

A combined electromagnetic acoustic transducer (EMAT) is disclosed adapted to generate both SH-type acoustic waves and LAMB-type acoustic waves in a conductive casing, surroundings of which are to be analyzed. The transducer comprises one magnet assembly and two RF coils implemented as multi-layer printed circuit board. Each coil is used to generate or receive acoustic signals of one wave type. Compared to using two single-wave-type transducers the combined EMAT significantly reduces total attraction force to the casing and, correspondingly, simplifies mechanics of the measurement tool. Combined electro-magnetic acoustic transducer

A method useful for evaluating the presence and/or the quality of the cement bond of a downhole tubular. The method involves measuring radial resonance modes of the tubular, and comparing those measured values to the unbound tubular resonant values of a calibration ring. For a well bonded tubular, the measured radial resonance should be greater than that of the unbound tubular calibration ring. In regions where a fluid, such as water surrounds the outside of the tubular, or the cement is otherwise not bonded to the outer surface of the tubular, the measured response should be less than the calibrated response. The calibration ring should have the same diameter, wall thickness, and be made of the same material as the tubular.

Casing resonant radial flexural modes in cement bond evaluation

A method and apparatus useful to determine the integrity of a cement bond log disposed in the annular space between a casing and a wellbore. The method and apparatus induce a Lamb wave in the casing and into the wellbore. The Lamb wave attenuates upon passage through the cement bond log. The integrity of the cement bond log can be determined through an analysis and evaluation of the attenuation results.

Use of Lamb waves in cement bond logging

A casing inspection device with magnets and flux sensors. Measurements of axial motion of the device are used to get better definition of the axial extent of casing defects. A contact device may be used for motion measurement. The output of the contact device may be used to control the acquisition of flux measurements direction.

Apparatus and method of using accelerometer measurements for casing evaluation

A casing inspection device with magnets and flux sensors. The sensors provide measurements of absolute levels of magnetic flux that are indicative of changes in casing thickness and/or permeability.
