Disclosed herein are methods, devices, apparatuses, and non-transitory computer readable media for signal communication via hollow fiber using stimulated Raman scattering (HC-SRS). Such use of HC-SRS can cause amplification of the signal as it is transmitted through the hollow fiber. Such use of HC-SRS may have (A) reduced signal loss during transmission, (B) reduced latency time as compared to optical signal propagating through a solid core optical fiber, (C) increase a distance between repeaters required for signal transmission, or (D) any combination of (A) (B) and (C); with any of (A) and (C) being compared to any of the currently used signal transmission methodologies disclosed herein.

Enhanced optical signal communication via hollow core fibers

This invention includes an optical characterization method capable of determining various characteristics of samples that preferably include naturally-occurring color deviations. In the preferred embodiment, this method is used in connection with food products and, particularly, potato products such as french fried potatoes. The method of this invention overcomes such disadvantages by generating from the RGB pixel values a sample-based color space that corresponds to the naturally-occurring color deviations of the samples. Preferably, the method includes generating HSI pixel values that correspond to the RGB pixel values and are defined with respect to an HSI color space having hue, saturation, and intensity coordinates. The sample-based representation of the color characteristics of the samples is determined on a pixel-by-pixel basis. As a result, color grades for the samples can be assigned according to the distribution of pixels within the sample-based representation. Moreover, defects or color variation, as well as the length distribution of the samples, may also be determined.

Optical characterization method

A bandmill has first and second wheels and an endless saw blade trained about the wheels. The wheels are mounted to rotate about respective axes which lie in a common plane, but the first wheel is adjustable in position relative to the second wheel with respect to both its distance from the second wheel and its orientation relative to the second wheel. A tensioning mechanism is effective to force the first wheel away from the second wheel, while maintaining the axes of rotation of the two wheels substantially parallel, in response to a signal which is provided by a load cell and represents the tension in the saw blade. A wheel tilt mechanism is effective to adjust the angular position of the first wheel relative to the second wheel in response to a signal indicating the path followed by the saw blade, for maintaining the blade on a proper path.
