A control apparatus is provided for a hydrostatic transmission to simulate a gear drive on a tractor. The hydrostatic transmission has a swashplate that is angularly movable to a plurality of positions, and a proportional valve that provides a control pressure to a servo piston to control the hydrostatic transmission swashplate position. A transmission control lever may be moved to a plurality of positions, each position providing a different voltage signal to a microcontroller. The microcontroller receives and converts a voltage signal to a coil current to actuate the proportional valve.

Hydrostatic transmission controls to simulate gear drive

A hydrostatic transmission on a tractor is operated by a microcontroller providing current commands to the hydrostatic transmission pump, and manual controls that provide signals to the microcontroller so the current commands cause the hydrostatic transmission to operate in either a first mode or a second mode. In the first or automatic mode the swash plate position may be continuously variable based on the position of a foot pedal. In the second or gear mode the swash plate may be moved to any of a plurality of discrete positions based on the position of a manually operable switch.

Hydrostatic transmission controls with alternative operating modes

A throttle potentiometer adapter provides a direct connection between a pivot nut on a hand throttle linkage and the internal sleeve of a potentiometer. The potentiometer provides a voltage output to an electronic controller, the voltage output corresponding to the position of the hand throttle. The adapter is of one-piece construction and includes a socket engaging the pivot nut and a shaft extending into the internal sleeve.

A cruise control system for a utility vehicle, which is speed-controlled by a hydrostatic transmission, includes a controller having an input for receiving a selectable set speed signal, and an output for sending a speed control signal to at least one proportional valve of a hydrostatic transmission servo control system. The vehicle ground speed is continuously monitored by a speed sensor operatively associated with a rotating gear in the vehicle drive train that rotates in proportion to vehicle ground speed, to create a ground speed signal. The selectable set speed signal can be input to controller memory by driving the vehicle at a desired ground speed and then activating a speed set switch. The speed control algorithm of the controller thereafter compares the set speed to the ground speed signal from the speed sensor and corrects the control signal to the proportional valve to correct hydrostatic transmission speed output.

A control system for a utility vehicle transmission provides for operator selection of vehicle &ldquo;aggressiveness,&rdquo; or rates of acceleration in response to operator command. The aggressiveness of a vehicle's performance can be controlled by modulating control signals to proportional control valves, which determine the transmission acceleration, according to two or more electrical ramp-up (or ramp-down) profiles, in response to an operator's acceleration command (or deceleration command). The transmission control system includes a controller, directional switches and electro-hydraulic valves which control hydraulic pressure in the clutch packs in a reverser transmission. The operator is provided with a two-position set switch. With the set switch in the less aggressive position, in response to an operator's command, the software in the controller provides a relatively slow current ramp to energize the control valves. With the switch in the more aggressive position, the current ramps and resultant pressure ramps are faster, thus causing more aggressive transmission operation for the reverser transmission.
