An apparatus for supporting wires in a wire module for use in a scavengeless development system using wire maintaining members that longitudinally support the wires. The tops of the wire maintaining members have grooves that positively position the wires and set a desired wire to wire spacing. The wire maintaining members are integral with the wire module and are part of a wire tensioning system. The wire maintaining members are part of an assembly that allow the wires to be pretensioned to the operable development tension prior to the wire module being mounted to the developer housing. The wire maintaining members also have a unique mounting system which allows the wire module to be rotatably mounted to the developer housing.

A method and apparatus involving the stopping and starting of the development of images, using hybrid development, to insure proper charging of the donor toner layer. A second (e.g. magnetic brush) roll is used to place toner on the donor roll or remove toner from the donor roll depending upon whether the development of images is stopped or started.

A donor roll for the conveyance of toner in a development system for an electrophotographic printer includes an outer surface of phenolic resin. The resin is doped to a suitable conductivity to facilitate a discharge time constant thereon of less than 300 microseconds. The donor roll is used in conjunction with an electrode structure as used in scavengeless development.

Donor roll for scavengeless development in a xerographic apparatus

An apparatus which develops an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive member with toner particles. A donor member is spaced from the photoconductive member and transports toner particles to a development zone adjacent the photoconductive member. Electrode wires are positioned in the development zone between the photoconductive member and the donor member. The electrode wires are electrically biased to detach toner particles from the donor member to form a cloud of toner particles in the development zone. Toner particles detached from the toner particle cloud develop the latent image. The electrode wires are adjustably supported in tension adjacent the donor member.

Development system having tensioned electrode wires

An apparatus which develops an electrostatic latent image. A transport roll advances developer material from a chamber to a donor roll. The donor roll advances the toner particles to the latent image. The latent image attracts toner particles from the donor roll. In order to improve the speed with which toner particles removed from the donor roll are replaced, an alternating voltage is applied between the two rolls. The magnetic transport roll is driven to rotate at a surface velocity at least 2, but not more than 5 times that of the rotational surface velocity of the donor roll. Also, the compression pile height (CPH) vs the spacing between the spacing between the donor roll and the transport roller (DRS) is found to be optimal when meeting the ratio CPH:DRS=2:3.

An apparatus in which an electrostatic latent image recorded on a photoconductive belt is developed with toner. A donor belt is wrapped about a portion of a magnetic roll to define an extended loading zone. The magnetic roll advances a developer material comprising carrier and toner to the loading zone. At the loading zone, toner is deposited on the donor belt. A plurality of electrode wires are positioned in the space between the donor belt and the photoconductive belt. The electrodes are electrically biased to detach the toner from the donor belt so as to form a toner cloud in the space between the electrodes and photoconductive belt. Detached toner from the toner cloud develops the latent image.

An apparatus for developing a latent image recorded on a photoconductive member in an electrophotographic printing machine having a reservoir for storing a supply of developer material and a magnetic rush roll for transporting material from the reservoir to each of two donor rolls. The developer material has carrier granules and toner particles. The donor rolls receive toner particles from the magnetic brush roll and deliver the toner particles to the photoconductive member at spaced locations in the direction of movement of the photoconductive member to develop the latent image recorded thereon.

In a cleaning arrangement for the removal of residual toner from a charge retentive surface, such as a photoreceptor surface in a reproduction machine, after a transfer step, a conductive cleaning member is arranged closely adjacent the surface. An A.C. voltage is applied to the member. In such an arrangement, toner in the vicinity of the blade is observed to jump from the surface in response to the electric field created at the member, forming an oscillating toner cloud. The agitated toner further aids in removal of toner from the surface by causing a large number of toner/toner impacts that jar toner held on the surface into movement. Toner held on the surface is thus removed electrostatically and mechanically. Toner in the cloud configuration may be easily removed from the area adjacent the surface by an airstream through the area, a biased collecting surface, or a traveling electrostatic wave arrangement, among other methods.

Electrophotographic device having a.c. biased cleaning member

A release agent management (RAM) system for use with a heat and pressure fuser. The system is characterized by the use of a simple reciprocating, positive displacement pump for delivering silicone oil to the heated roll of the fuser. The pump is actuated in response to the fuser rolls being engaged and disengaged, such movement being adapted to act against one or the other of a pair of springs which in cooperation with the oil being pumped forms a damper system which is utilized to control the quantity of oil delivered. The springs and oil cause the velocity of the pump's piston to decay with time which results in more oil being pumped initially.
