Fluid treatment elements substantially inhibit electrical charge imbalances and/or build-ups of electrical charges. A fluid treatment element may comprise a multilayer composite including an electrically conductive fibrous matrix, having an upstream side and a downstream side, disposed on a porous substrate, also having an upstream side and a downstream side, which supports the fibrous matrix. The fibrous matrix may include a combination of conductive and nonconductive fibers. The multilayer composite may also include a drainage layer positioned along one of the upstream side of the fibrous matrix and the downstream side of the porous substrate.

Electrically conductive fluid treatment elements

Fluid treatment elements substantially inhibit electrical charge imbalances and/or build-ups of electrical charges. A fluid treatment element may comprise a multilayer composite including an electrically conductive fibrous matrix, having an upstream side and a downstream side, disposed on a porous substrate, also having an upstream side and a downstream side, which supports the fibrous matrix. The fibrous matrix may include a combination of conductive and nonconductive fibers, wherein the conductive fibers include metal, carbon, or conductive polymer fibers and substantially inhibit an electrical charge and/or build-up of electrical charge. The conductive fibers of the electrically conductive fibrous matrix may comprise less than about 50% by weight of the conductive and nonconductive fibers and may have diameters in the range from about 1 &#x3bc;m or less to about 10 &#x3bc;m. The multilayer composite may also include a drainage layer positioned along one of the upstream side of the fibrous matrix and the downstream side of the porous substrate.

Fluid treatment elements

A fluid treatment element for treating a fluid flowing through the element comprises a first conductive layer and a second conductive layer electrically connected to the first conductive layer. The element further comprises a nonconductive porous treatment medium between the first and second conductive layers. The first and second conductive layers are positioned to offset electrical imbalances caused by fluid flowing through the nonconductive porous treatment medium.

Filter for gas analysis

An engine exhaust filter system comprises a housing and a pleated filter element. The housing includes an inlet and an outlet and defines an exhaust flow path between the inlet and the outlet. The pleated filter element is disposed in the exhaust gas flow path between the inlet and the outlet. The pleated filter element includes a filter medium and at least a first perforated support member, the filter medium being disposed adjacent to the perforated filter support member. The filter medium includes a portion extending beyond the perforated support member comprising a seal that prevents or reduces bypass of unfiltered exhaust gas around the pleated filter element.

Internal combustion engine exhaust filters

The present invention provides a composition comprising a hydrophobic, fluoroplastic polymer and an oleophobic fluoropolymer, wherein said composition is both hydrophobic and oleophobic, and wherein the weight ratio of the hydrophobic, fluoroplastic polymer to the oleophobic fluoropolymer in the composition is at least about 10:1. The present invention also provides products prepared from and using such a composition, as well as methods of preparing such a composition and products.

Fibrous nonwoven web

The present invention provides a polymeric, particularly aramid, fibrous nonwoven web having a relatively small pore size. The present inventive fibrous nonwoven web preferably has a high titer reduction with respect to bacteria such as Pseudomonas diminuta and viruses as exemplified by PR772 coliphage. The present invention further provides a method of filtering a fluid by passing a fluid through the present inventive fibrous nonwoven web, as well as a filter element incorporating the present inventive fibrous nonwoven web.

Regenerable diesel exhaust filter

A filter assembly for removing particulates from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine. The filter assembly includes a housing having an inlet pipe which may be coupled to the engine and an outlet pipe which may be open to the atmosphere, and a self-contained filtering mechanism disposed within the housing. An exhaust gas fluid path is defined from the inlet pipe through the self-contained filtering mechanism and out the outlet pipe. Each of the components of the self-contained filtering mechanism are highly resistant to high temperatures, so that the filtering mechanism may be electrically regenerated by heat, produced by a heater operatively associated with the filtering mechanism, which burns off accumulated, typically hydrocarbon, particulates.

A composite, supported microporous medium is provided which includes a fluoropolymeric microporous membrane having secured directly to at least one surface thereof a fluoropolymeric web of microfibers. A method of forming a composite, supported microporous medium is also provided which includes contacting a fluoropolymeric microporous membrane with a fluoropolymeric web of microfibers and subjecting said fluoropolymeric membrane and web of microfibers to sufficient heat and pressure to effect bonding therebetween. The composite, supported microporous medium may be employed for separation of a particulate material from a particulate-containing fluid. The composite medium also finds use in analytical procedures.

Composite, supported fluorocarbon media

A process for reducing the level of extractables, whitening, and rendering a porous material non-contaminating where the porous material is comprised of bonded fluorocarbon fibers and a fluorocarbon chemical binder. The thermal bleaching process includes exposing the material for at least several hours to a vigorously agitated oxygen-containing atmosphere maintained at a temperature of at least 400.degree. F.

A gas filter assembly for removing particulates from the exhaust gas of a diesel engine comprising a housing having an inlet pipe for coupling to the engine and an outlet pipe open to the atmosphere is disclosed. The inlet pipe and the outlet pipe define an exhaust gas flow path. A self-contained filtering means is disposed within the gas flow path. The filtering means includes a plurality of inlet cells, microporous filter elements, filter support elements, and the outlet cells. The components of the filtering means are disposed such that the exhaust gas flows through the inlet cells, then through the microporous filter elements and filter support elements, and finally through the outlet cells. Each of the components of the self-contained filtering means are highly resistant to excessive temperatures, so that the filtering means may be regenerated by heat, which burns off accumulated, typically hydrocarbon, particulates.
