An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) device, comprising: first and second non-metallic transparent electrodes, and one or more layers of organic material formed between the first and second non-metallic transparent electrodes, the layers of organic material including one or more light-emitting layers; and one or more non-metallic reflective layers located on a side of either of the first or second non-metallic transparent electrodes opposite to the organic material layers; wherein the device further comprises a light transmissive scattering layer in optical contact with the organic material layers and the electrodes or wherein at least one of the one or more non-metallic reflective layers comprises a reflective scattering layer in optical contact with the organic material layers and the electrodes. Additionally, a low-index layer is preferably employed in various embodiments to improve device sharpness.

OLED device having improved light output

A method of generating a pulmonary nodule image from a chest radiograph. The method includes the steps of: producing a map of a clear lung field; removing low frequency variation from the clear lung field to generate a level image; and performing at least one grayscale morphological operation on the level image to generate a nodule-bone image. Pulmonary nodules can be detected using the nodule-bone image by the further steps of: pulmonary nodules from a chest radiograph. The method includes the steps of: identifying candidate nodule locations in the nodule-bone image; segmenting a region around each candidate nodule location in the nodule-bone image; and using the features of the segmented region to determine if a candidate is a nodule.

An organic light-emitting diode (OLED) device, comprising: first and second transparent electrodes, and one or more layers of organic material formed between the first and second transparent electrodes, the layers of organic material including one or more light-emitting layers; a reflective layer having a surface plasmon-polariton-supporting reflective surface located on a side of either of the first or second transparent electrodes opposite to the organic material layers; and a scattering layer in optical contact with the organic material layers and the electrodes. In certain embodiments, layer spacing is preferably designed such that the distance between the reflective surface and at least one of the one or more light-emitting layers is equal to or greater than 60 nm. Additionally, a low-index layer is preferably employed in various embodiments to improve device sharpness.

A method for generating a stabilized three-dimensional image from a scannerless range imaging system comprises the steps of acquiring a bundle of three or more phase offset images corresponding to modulated illumination reflected from a scene, whereby one or more of the phase offset images includes image motion relative to another phase offset image; searching for a stable chain of phase offset images in the image bundle, wherein a stable chain is a collection of images that is obtained by testing the phase offset images against a confidence measure that separates less severe correctable image motion from more severe image motion and then populating the stable chain only with those phase offset images that meet the confidence measure for correctable image motion; correcting for the image motion in the stable chain of images if a stable chain of at least three phase offset images is found to exist; and computing a stabilized three-dimensional image using the phase offset images from the stable chain of phase offset images.

An apparatus for optically embedding hidden data in a source image, wherein the hidden data is updateable in real-time, the apparatus includes (a) optical masks bearing a data image and an encoding carrier image either or both of which may be updated in real-time; (b) optical components for convolving, the data image with the encoding carrier image to produce a spatially dispersed data image; and (c) optical beam combiner for combining the spatially dispersed data image with the source image to produce a source image containing embedded hidden data.

An alignment method is provided for a color scannerless range imaging system whereby the separate optical paths of colored texture and monochromatic range images may be precisely aligned. The range imaging system includes an illumination system for illuminating a scene with modulated infrared illumination, image forming optics for forming an image of the scene, optical means for forming first and second optical paths between the image forming optics and an image sensor, a transponder subject to modulation located in the first optical path for amplifying and converting infrared light to visible light to form a range image on the image sensor. The alignment method includes the steps of providing a target having alignment indicia that can be imaged in both infrared and visible regions of the spectrum, capturing an infrared image of the target using the first optical path, capturing a color image of the target using the second optical path, and adjusting at least one of the optical paths so that the captured images are coincident.

Method and apparatus for aligning a color scannerless range imaging system

A modulator for a high optical power printing includes a transparent crystal and a patterned buffer layer formed over one of the surfaces of the crystal. An electrode array is formed so that each electrode of the electrode array is patterned directly on each portion of the patterned buffer layer. In a further feature of the invention, the crystal substrate can be formed so that opposing endfaces through which high optical power laser light passes are at an angle and are antireflection coated. A transparent and electrically insulating overcoat is provided above the electrodes.

A method for forming lenslets of a solid-state imager, includes providing a first etch-stop layer on a spacer layer formed on a substrate or layer(s) on a substrate; providing a patterned first photosensitive resin layer to form a first mask pattern; performing an etch transfer of the first mask pattern to the first photosensitive resin layer to form a first etch-stop mask pattern, and removing the first photosensitive resin layer; providing a transparent lenslet-forming layer on the spacer layer. The method further includes forming a second etch-stop layer on the transparent lenslet-forming layer to form a second mask pattern and patterning a second photosensitive resin layer on the second etch-stop layer wherein the second mask pattern corresponds to the lenslet array to be formed and wherein the lenslet array defined by the second mask pattern is aligned to the array of open regions of the first etch-stop mask pattern; transferring by etching the pattern of the second photosensitive resin layer to the second etch-stop layer to form a second etch-stop mask pattern; anisotropically plasma etching the transparent lenslet-forming layer according to the second etch-stop mask pattern; anisotropically plasma etching the spacer layer according to the first etch-stop mask pattern; isotropically etching to remove remaining portions of the first etch-stop layer forming the first etch-stop mask and portions of the second etch-stop layer forming the second etch-stop mask; and thermally reflowing the patterned transparent lenslet-forming layer to form the lenslets on the solid-state imager.

Dual mask pattern transfer techniques for fabrication of lenslet arrays

A device is described for a very low cost anti-aliasing filter to be used to suppress aliasing artifacts present in discretely sampled solid-state electronic imaging devices. This device includes a transparent substrate upon which a multiplicity of transparent phase spots are placed. The diameter and thickness of the transparent phase spots are designed in such a way to cause just the right amount of blurring to suppress the aliasing artifacts, yet render a reasonable sharp image for spatial frequencies below the sampling frequency of the imager. This suppression is further accomplished over a broad spectral range. The phase noise filter thus formed can be placed either in object space or in image space.

In a method for forming lenslets which collect light and focus it onto photosensitive elements of an electronic imager includes providing a transparent lenslet-forming layer on a substrate or on layers on the substrate, (a) providing a transparent polyester lenslet-forming layer on a substrate or on layer(s) on the substrate, the polyester containing repeat units, in part, having the structure ##STR1## wherein: n is 2 or greater; x is selected from the group consisting of H, CH.sub.3, Br and Cl; and Z is selected from the group consisting of nil, O, S, CH.sub.2, C.dbd.O, SO, SO.sub.2, CH--CH.sub.3, CH.sub.3 --C--CH.sub.3, CF.sub.3 --C--CF.sub.3, CH.sub.3 --C--CH.sub.2 CH.sub.3, ##STR2## (b) forming a thin etch-stop layer on the transparent lenslet-forming layer and patterning the etch-stop layer to form a mask so that the pattern corresponds to lenslets to be formed; (c) anisotropically plasma etching the transparent lenslet-forming layer according to the pattern; (d) removing the thin etch-stop mask; and (e) thermally reflowing the patterned transparent layer to form the transparent lenslets.

The method further includes transferring by etching the pattern of the photosensitive resin mask to the thin etch-stop layer to form a thin etch-stop mask, anisotropically plasma etching the transparent lenslet-forming layer according to the patterned thin etch-stop mask, removing the thin etch-stop mask, and thermally reflowing the etched transparent lenslet-forming layer to form the lenslets.

A mulitchannel optical waveguide page scanner has a diode laser and a primary optical channel waveguide. Light is coupled from the diode into the primary channel waveguide. Multiple secondary side channels each have a thin-film electro-optic waveguide modulator. A series of T-branch connectors distribute light from the primary channel to the secondary side channels. An integrated optic head contains a planar and a channel waveguide, a waveguide condensing lens, and integrated waveguide photodetectors. The main portion of the beam returning from the disk is focused by the lens onto an integrated waveguide photodetector to provide the data signal. A smaller portion of the beam is sampled by channel waveguide Mach-Zehnder (MZ) interferometers that measure the beam wavefront curvature to provide the focus error signal (FES). Additional channel waveguides provide reference signals for the interferometers and provide a means of measuring the tracking error signal (TES). The TES method includes subtracting light detected by one channel waveguide detector from light detected by another, which difference is the tracking error. The FES method includes obtaining the difference in the ratios of the light emanating from two interferometers divided by the light emanating from their respective channel waveguides, which difference in ratios is the focus error.
