A method and slide for collecting and testing fecal occult blood which permits multiple analyses of a single fecal sample. The slide contains a pocket-like member on a portion of the inside front cover of the slide. An absorbent insert is disposed in the pocket. When the cover is in a closed position the pocket overlies the fecal smear on the specimen viewing sheet and the insert can be removed from the pocket. This design permits an analysis to be done on the specimen receiving sheet of the slide together with a second confirmatory test on the insert.

Method and device for collecting and testing for fecal occult blood

A method and device for collecting and testing fecal occult blood which permits multiple analyses of a single fecal sample. The device is a combination of a sampler for collecting the fecal matter and a test slide. The fecal sampler comprises a pocket-like wipe pad for obtaining direct anal stool smears. An insert is disposed in the pocket of the wipe pad. The slide has a profiled opening similar to the design of the wipe pad. This opening acts as a receptacle for the pad when the fecal smear is transferred to the guaiac specimen receiving sheet of the slide. When the slide is closed the insert can be removed from the wipe pad. This design permits an analysis to be done on the specimen receiving sheet of the slide together with a second confirmatory test for human hemoglobin on portions of the insert. The fecal material on the insert is physically removed from the guaiac specimen receiving sheet.

Stable oxidase reagent solutions containing N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-p-phenylenediamine or N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylenediamine for determining the presence of oxidase in microbial colonies.

Stable oxidase reagent solutions

A specimen test slide has a front panel and a rear panel. The front panel has a plurality of openings. Sheet means underlie each of these openings for the reception of a specimen. The portion of the sheet under each opening carries a test reagent. A hinged cover overlies the openings. The rear panel has tab means opposite the said openings which are pivotable to expose the underside of the sheet to permit the application of a developing solution. The reagent at each location may be the same or different. When the reagents are different, they can be separately printed on the sheet to underlie different openings. A single sheet is disclosed underlying all of the openings with the employment of a barrier to limit the migration between adjacent portions of the sheet. The use of separate sheets under each opening is also disclosed.

Specimen test slide

A device for making a culture of micro-organisms has a container having an open end and means to seal the open end of the container. A second seal divides the container into a first compartment for a liquid culture medium remote from the open end of the container and a second compartment adjacent the open end of the container. A removable elongated member in the container has a portion extending through the second compartment and into said first compartment and removably engaging the second seal to seal liquid culture medium in the first compartment. A culture medium secured to a portion of said elongated member lies in the second compartment. Preferably the sides edges of the elongated member are tapered adjacent its inner end and a portion of the elongated member in the second compartment carries one or more solid culture mediums. Advantageously the second seal member is tapered to guide the elongated member through the center thereof.

Device for making a culture of micro-organisms

A device for making a culture of carbon dioxide (CO.sub.2) requiring organisms has an elongated member supporting a culture medium in a container having an open end which is adapted to be closed by sealing means. A CO.sub.2 tablet is secured to the elongated member between the culture medium and the open end of the container.
