One or more working electrodes may be combined with two or more counter electrodes. The two or more counter electrodes may operate at different potentials to provide for multi-analyte electrochemical analysis. Analysis methods are provided to perform multi-analyte electrochemical analysis and test sensors are provided having resistance to chemical mixing between secondary analysis regions.

A biosensor with an underfill recognition system assesses whether to analyze a sample for one or more analytes in response to the volume of the sample. The underfill recognition system applies polling and test excitation signals to the sample. The polling signals generate one or more polling output signals, which maybe used to detect when a sample is present and to determine whether the sample has sufficient volume for analysis. The test excitation signal generates one or more test output signals, which may be used to determine one or more analyte concentrations in the sample.

An electrochemical test sensor being adapted to assist in determining information relating to an analyte in a fluid sample and includes a base and a second layer. The base includes a plurality of electrodes, a working conductive lead and a counter conductive lead thereon. The electrodes include a working electrode and a counter electrode. The second layer assists in forming a channel in which the channel includes a reagent therein. Auto-calibration information of the test sensor is performed by a plurality of auto-calibration segments connected to one of the following: the working conductive lead, the counter conductive lead, or neither of the conductive leads, at least one of the plurality of auto-calibration segments being connected to the working conductive lead and at least one of the plurality of auto-calibration segments being connected to the counter conductive lead.

Underfill recognition system for a biosensor

A biosensor system determines an analyte concentration using one or more calibrated correlation equations for an optical and/or electrochemical analysis of a biological fluid. The biosensor system may be implemented using a measurement device and a sensor strip. The measurement device senses circuit patterns on an encoding pattern of the sensor strip. The measurement device determines calibration information in response to the circuit patterns, and uses the calibration information to calibrate one or more of the correlation equations. The measurement device uses the calibrated correlation equations to determine the analyte concentration.

An auto-calibration circuit or label is adapted to be used with an instrument. The instrument is adapted to determine information related to an analyte of a fluid sample. The auto-calibration circuit or label comprises a plurality of electrical connections, first and second common connections, and first and second auxiliary common connections. The electrical connections convey auto-calibration information corresponding to a test sensor. The auto-calibration information is adapted to be utilized by the instrument to auto-calibrate for the test sensor. The electrical connections include first contact areas. The auto-calibration circuit comprises a first plurality of electrical connections and at least one electrical connection. At least one electrical connection is utilized solely by the second instrument to auto-calibrate and includes at least one contact area. This electrical connection is distinct from the first plurality of electrical connections. The first plurality of electrical connections is routed directly from each of the first plurality of contact areas to a respective first or second common connection. The at least one electrical connection is routed directly from the at least one contact area to the respective first common connection, the second common connection or a no-contact area.

A biosensor system determines an analyte concentration using one or more calibrated correlation equations for an optical and/or electrochemical analysis of a biological fluid. The biosensor system may be implemented using a measurement device and a sensor strip. The measurement device applies test signals to a sequential conductive pattern on a sensor strip. The measurement device selectively and sequentially connects test contacts with conductive and non-conductive areas on the sequential conductive pattern, which generates code signals in response to the test signals. The measurement device uses the code signals to calibrate one or more of the correlation equations. The measurement device uses the calibrated correlation equations to determine the analyte concentration.

Biosensor coding system

A system, method and biosensor apparatus are provided for data communications with a personal data assistant. The biosensor apparatus includes a sensor for receiving a user sample to be measured and a microcontroller for performing a predefined test sequence for measuring a predefined parameter value. An interface logic block is coupled to the microcontroller for communicating the predefined parameter data value to the personal data assistant. The personal data assistant provides an operator interface, data management and analysis of biosensor results.

A method and apparatus are provided for data management authentication in a clinical analyzer. The clinical analyzer includes a sensor for receiving a user sample to be measured and a processor for performing a predefined test sequence for measuring a predefined parameter value. A memory is coupled to the processor for storing predefined parameter data values. An authentication password is associated with each data transmission by the clinical analyzer and read by an associated computer system to validate each data transmission. The authentication password is generated by the clinical analyzer utilizing predetermined information in each data transfer.

Method and apparatus for data management authentication in a clinical analyzer

A method and apparatus are provided for calibrating a sensor for determination of analyte concentration. The meter includes a sensor for receiving a user sample to be measured and a processor for performing a predefined test sequence for measuring a predefined parameter value. A memory can be coupled to the processor for storing predefined parameter data values. A calibration code is associated with the sensor and read by the processor before the user sample to be measured is received. The calibration code is used in measuring the predefined parameter data value to compensate for different sensor characteristics.
