A method of reducing the fouling in a process for the production of styrene, the method comprising: introducing an additive into a stream comprising styrene and byproduct divinyl benzene (DVB), wherein the additive comprises: at least one chemical compound comprising one or more functional groups selected from amines, alcohols, amino-alcohols, labile C&#x2014;C, esters, carbamates, aldehydes, ketones, acids, acetates, benzoates, labile hydrogen, and combinations thereof, and having a boiling point greater than or equal to 170&#xb0; C. and within 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, or 60&#xb0; C. of the boiling point of divinyl benzene (DVB) (which is 195&#xb0; C.), wherein the at least one chemical compound is active to inhibit divinyl benzene (DVB) crosslinking. A system for carrying out the method is also provided.

Process to prepare insoluble polymer abatement additives in styrene process streams by catalytic oxidation

An alkylation catalyst having a zeolite catalyst component and a binder component providing mechanical support for the zeolite catalyst component is disclosed. The binder component is an ion-modified binder that can include metal ions selected from the group consisting of Co, Mn, Ti, Zr, V, Nb, K, Cs, Ga, B, P, Rb, Ag, Na, Cu, Mg, Fe, Mo, Ce, and combinations thereof. The metal ions reduce the number of acid sites on the zeolite catalyst component. The metal ions can range from 0.1 to 50 wt % based on the total weight of the ion-modified binder. Optionally, the ion-modified binder is present in amounts ranging from 1 to 80 wt % based on the total weight of the catalyst.

An apparatus and method for vaporizing and transporting an alkali metal salt is shown. The apparatus has a first conduit capable of transporting an alkali metal salt solution and a second conduit in fluid communication with the first conduit, the second conduit capable of transporting steam so that the alkali metal salt is dissipated into the steam forming a solution that can be transported, such as to a remote reaction zone. The solution can be transported via a third conduit that is capable of being heated by a heat source. The method can be used to add a promoter to a dehydrogenation catalyst during a dehydrogenation reaction.

A process may include shutting down a reactor in which ethylbenzene is undergoing dehydrogenation to styrene in the presence of steam and a catalyst adapted to catalyze dehydrogenation of ethylbenzene to styrene. Shutting down the reactor may include reducing a temperature of the reactor. Shutting down the reactor may include supplying a purge stream to the reactor. Supplying a purge stream may include increasing a steam-to-ethylbenzene molar ratio of an input stream to the reactor. Supplying a purge stream may include supplying steam and one or more of H, CO, and styrene to the reactor. The process may include stopping supply of the purge stream to the reactor and supplying an inert gas purge stream to the reactor. Shutting down the reactor may be performed without use of a steam-only purge stream.

A process for making styrene is disclosed that includes reacting toluene with a Csource and a co-feed in the presence of a catalyst in a reactor to form a first product stream comprising styrene, ethylbenzene, carbon monoxide, and hydrogen; separating the hydrogen and carbon monoxide from the first product stream to form a second stream; separating the hydrogen from the second stream to form a third stream comprising hydrogen and a fourth stream comprising carbon monoxide; wherein the fourth stream is recycled to the reactor and forms at least a portion of the co-feed.
